Year 12s Final Week
This week has been our Year 12s last week as students of Wynnum High. Many exciting and memorable
events were held. From the Formal on Monday night to their Final Assembly to their Graduation
Ceremony, we are all very proud of them. Below is an excerpt of my speech from the Final Assembly.
Semper Fidelis. What does it mean? - Always Faithful
 Days like these are when our school motto is important Semper Fidelis.
Always Faithful - Always Wynnum High
 We have shared this year together with our “Class of 2014” graduating this week.
Congratulations Year 12
 They have led our school well.
 They have matured into a reliable, responsible and generous group of young people.
 On Monday night they showed us just how sophisticated they have become. It was a great night.
 Everyone in this room today has shared 2014 at Wynnum High. We share this celebration to say
goodbye.
 Our Year 12s of 2014
will be able to look
back on a year of
struggle, achievement
and leadership. They
made it! But most
importantly, they did
it together - Semper
Fidelis.
Year 12s on behalf of
the entire school
community I say:
Congratulations,
Thank you and
Goodbye.
Semper Fidelis.

Music News
They’re creepy and their spooky and altogether kooky – but they played like angels at the Halloween
Street Parade. The Symphonic Band presented their final concert for the year on Saturday 1 November
at this very busy and exciting community event on the Manly foreshore. We were sad to say goodbye to
ten of our Year 12 students: Hayley Forster, Makenzie Taylor, Peter Craig, Lisa Waldron, Laura
Thwaites, Sam Bishop, Keahn Butler, Nicole Lakeman, Megan Jansen and Alana Lewinton. These
outstanding musicians have been committed and dedicated Instrumental Music students throughout
their five years at Wynnum and we thank them for their service. They will be missed. Many thanks to
Mr Rander who has done a magnificent job this year preparing the Symphonic Band and Concert Band
for the numerous events held throughout the year.
Next year will be an exciting year for the instrumental program as we will be welcoming Year 7 and 8
Instrumental Music students to our school. We look forward to these young musicians joining our
program and reaping the many benefits gained from being a musician at our school.
Good news for Year 12 music student Hayley Forster who has been accepted into the Queensland
Conservatorium of Music, Griffith University for 2015. Congratulations and well done to Hayley.
Senior Celebration Night was held on Thursday 13 November featuring Years 10, 11 and 12 Music,
Drama and Visual Art students. This alfresco evening of music, art and drama was a fitting way to
celebrate the wonderful work of the senior Arts students at Wynnum. Many thanks must go to Mr
Nutley and the Wynnum SHS technical team who created the perfect atmosphere for the evening.
Auditions for Grease – The Musical have taken place and we are thrilled by the enthusiasm and energy
of the students who are involved. Grease will be presented next year on 22nd and 23rd May. So make
sure you keep that weekend free. We look forward to seeing you all there!

Chaplain News
Hi, I am Greg Deighton, Chaplain of Wynnum SHS. During the January holidays I run
a holiday program called Wynnum Wipeout. This program has been running for 21 years with great
success and is for any students who are in Grades 7-12 in 2015. The program runs from Monday 12th
January and finishes on Saturday 17th. Students are welcome to come for one or all days of the
program.
As you can see from the brochure below the day is broken into 2 halves – a morning and afternoon
session – with a variety of activities available. The cost of each activity is listed.
To register and for more information you can go online to www.wynnumwipeout.com
We also have a pre-registration day that will be held on Wednesday 7th January in the school library.
