New Ceduna Area School Staff James Taylor, Lachlan
Norman, Skye Foster and Reegan Mastralangelo
Congratulations to David King who has been appointed to
our site as a permanent member of staff to fill a vacancy in
Physical Education and English.
Jim and the Leadership team are busy finalising staffing for
the 2015 school year.
JUNIOR SCHOOL SWIMMING CARNIVAL
Unfortunately the forecast hot weather on Friday led to the
cancellation of the Junior School Swimming Carnival. Our
site has a hot/ wet weather sports policy that enables us to
manage the risk associated with this in case of hot weather
and it was decided that the risk to students and staff would
be unacceptable. Due to the busy nature of the final two
weeks of school another day cannot be found to conduct the
swimming carnival this year.
CONCERT NIGHT
th
Junior School annual concert will take place Thursday 4
of December at 7pm in the school gym. It would be great
for the audience to be seated by 6.55pm for a prompt
start. The Junior School have been busy refining their
acts this term as part of the Arts Curriculum in
preparation for Thursday’s performance. As they say in
show business “break a leg” Junior School!
Lindsay, Irene McWaters and Cheryl Coote who have all
played a part in making transition run smoothly and
successfully.
PRESENTATION NIGHT
The annual Ceduna Area School Presentation Night will
th
occur next Tuesday 9 December at 7pm in the Ceduna
Town Hall. The Guest Speaker Daniel Flynn is the
Managing Director and Co-Founder of Thankyou Group, a
business venture he founded at just 19 years of age.
Profits from the sale of Thankyou products are used to
provide clean drinking water, health and hygiene projects
and short term food aid. In the last few years Daniel has
donated in excess of $1,000,000 to charity. We look
forward to hearing Daniel speak and acknowledging
those students who have won awards for the 2014
school year.

Kindy Transition
This week is the last week of
Transition for students coming over
from Ngura Yadurirn. The Transition
programme has run since the
beginning of Term 3 and has been
very successful in providing new
students and their families with
plenty of time to acquaint themselves with the physical
layout of the school and the learning and behaviour
expectations for all students.
Today Thursday 4 December, and Friday 5 December, a
Parent Information Session will be held in Room 1 West
Wing - 2:30-3:45pm. Parents will be given important
information about the beginning of the 2015 school year.
It will also be an opportunity for parents to ask questions
or air concerns. Transition family surveys will be given
out at the meetings, or posted home for those who
cannot attend. We urge all families to complete and
return the survey, as we value parent feedback on the
programme. Many suggestions from past surveys have
helped us improve the effectiveness of the transition
from Kindy to School.
Thank you to Kerasia Kouvaris, who organised the
Transition programme, and to Natalie Shallow, Sarah
New Receptions
Receptions enjoy their first full day of
transition
Swimming Carnival
Unfortunately the weather was not kind to us last week and
the Swimming Carnival had to be cancelled due to a forecast
of 38 degrees. Our hot weather policy states that all outdoor
activity ceases when the temperature is 38 degrees. We will
review the date for the Swimming Carnival and look at
holding it earlier in Term 4 so that we have time to
reschedule.
End of Year Concert
The Junior School End of Year Concert is Thursday 4th
December, at 7pm in the Gym. This year’s theme is Country
and Western and the audience are invited to come along in
Country/Western outfits and join in the show. I’m sure many
of you will know the popular songs being performed. Entry is
by gold coin donation and the 2014 School Magazine will be
on sale for $20.
As this will be the Junior School’s final Newsletter article for
2014, I would like to take this opportunity to thank parents
and care givers for their support throughout the year.
Research says that the best student outcomes are realized
when school and family work together.
I wish to acknowledge the hard work and commitment of
the Junior School staff. It has been a busy but fruitful year
with Literacy and Numeracy data showing good growth for
most students. It is exciting to see what can be achieved
when there is a common purpose and willingness to put
in the extra yards to achieve set goals.
On behalf of all Junior School Staff, I wish you a happy
and safe festive season and look forward to working with
you again in 2015.
Regards
Cheryl Bawden

Guest Speaker - National
Finalist Young Australian of
the Year 2014 Daniel Flynn
At the age of 19, Daniel Flynn
discovered the alarming fact
that while 900 million people
around the world did not have
access to safe drinking water,
Australians spent $600 million
on bottled water each year. As a result, Daniel founded
Thankyou Water – a social enterprise that exists to
empower Australians to fund safe water projects in
developing nations through the sale of bottled water.
Daniel harnessed the energy of a team of friends, who
worked with him on the project while juggling university
degrees and part-time jobs. Despite many setbacks, just
five years later, Thankyou Water evolved into the
Thankyou Group, expanding its product range to include
food and body care products in order to fund food and
hygiene projects. With its products now available in
4,000 outlets, including major supermarkets, to date
Thankyou Group has contributed to more than 100 water
projects across nine countries and has assisted over
60,000 people with safe water access. Daniel’s motto is
"Impossibility is only someone’s opinion, not a fact”.
SWAGS
Do you have an old swag lying around that you no
longer use?
Would you consider donating it
to the camping equipment at
Ceduna Area School?
We have several camps a year that use
swags and often students are unable to
source one from home. The School would be very
appreciative of any donations. We already have 2 swags
we use for this purpose but often have to source more.
Thanks from Parents & Friends
To all parents and caregivers,
Can you please make sure all of your
children’s Library books are returned
asap before the end of the school year.
We have a lot of over dues so ask that
they check under the bed in their school
bags on the book shelf too.
If anyone knows the where abouts of
these two DVD’s “Goosebumps” could
you please let us know or return them
asap.
