WATCH!
“Watch!” This word occurs three times in today’s
Gospel passage. Moreover, it is placed at significant
points: the beginning, the center, and the end. Though
this is technically a parable, it is quite short (four verses).
The threefold repetition of “watch” leaves no doubt as to
what the story is about.
We often think of Advent as a time of waiting, but it
truly is a season of watchfulness, a very active form of
waiting for the coming Day of the Lord. It is that day,
more than Christmas day, that the Christian community
faithfully expects, using all of our gifts and talents for this
purpose, as Paul reminds us in the Letter to the
Corinthians. When we use these gifts in faithful watching
and expectation, we become like the servants of the
parable, set to their tasks, not waiting around idly, but
engaged in the master’s work until his return. May our
Advent be a time when we return or rededicate our lives
and our communities to this work—the active and diligent
faithfulness that the Lord will expect to find.
Fr. Dominic’s Movie Premiere Party at St.
Finbar
Fr. Dominic’s new feature-length film, Zola Jumped In, is
about a teenage deaf girl who, after her little brother is
killed, turns to a gang, a neighborhood church, and
pregnancy for a sense of belonging and purpose. The
deaf Zola (Shoniqua Shandai in a breakout performance)
narrates this otherwise silent movie, featuring captivating
music and sound design by St. Finbar parishioner Lydian
Tone.
There will be refreshments and Q&A with Fr. Dominic,
Shoniqua, Lydian, and others. DVDs and soundtrack
CDs will be available at a special price. The English
audio version will be screened, with subtitles in Spanish
( con substitulos en español). The movie lasts 89
minutes and contains some violence, including rape will
be shown Tuesday, December 2, 7:30pm in Albert
Hall. RSVP at http://tinyurl.com/ZolaMovie.
Men’s Priesthood Discernment Group gathers on the second Friday of every month (next November 14) from
6:30-8:30pm at Holy Family Catholic Church in Glendale. For information or to RSVP contact Fr. Mike Perucho

MINISTER OF THE MONTH
Matthew Kelly
Every month Saint Finbar Church honors a minister
who gives of his/her time or talent in an exemplary
way. God gives gifts to all of us and good stewards
make wise use of those gifts in turn by sharing them
freely with others. Our Minister for the month of
November 2013 is Juan Vasquez. Juan has been a
parishioners of Saint Finbar since 2010. He is a
Eucharistic minister and a Sacristan. When we asked
Juan why he is involved at Saint Finbar he said “I
decided to become a part of the Eucharistic Ministry a
year after I became member of Saint Finbar. A year
later God called me to be a part of the Sacristan
ministry. I continue to serve my parish community for
the love of serving God and the community.
We honor Juan Vasquez for his dedication to serving
God and serving our faith community .
Matthew Kelly has dedicated his life to helping people
and organizations. He is an internationally acclaimed
speaker, best selling author and business
consultant. Two of his books Rediscovering Catholicism
and The Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic have been
available to St. Finbar parishioners. Matthew Kelly will be
speaking LIVE here at St. Finbar during Lent. Tickets will
be available after Mass on the First Weekend of Advent,
November 29 and 30. You will want to hear Mr. Kelly's
message during Lent for ways to live a deeper more full
faith. Event Date is Friday, February 27 at
7:00pm. Tickets are $ 39.00 - check, cash or credit card
are accepted. Please make the check payable to

ADVENT RECONCILIATION SERVICE
Tuesday, December 16th
7:00 P.M.
Advent has a two-fold character: as a season to prepare
for Christmas when Christ’s first coming to us is
remembered, and as a season when that remembrance
directs our minds and heart to await Christ’s second
coming at the end of time. Advent thus is a period of
devout and joyful expectation. The Sacrament of
Reconciliation gives us a chance to take time out to think
and to experience Christ’s presence in this sacrament.
Priests will be available for individual confession.

Adopt A Family For The Holidays
How would you like to help brighten the holidays for a
family? St. Finbar will once again participate in the
citywide annual Holiday Basket Program, sponsored by
the Burbank Coordinating Council. The goal of the
Holiday Basket Program is to provide holiday meals for
one full day, breakfast, lunch and dinner, and gifts for each
member of the adopted families. In all, there are close to
600 families that will be adopted as part of this program.
We will have an Angel Tree placed in the vestibule
• Please support the program by pulling a tag or two from
the Angel Tree
• Tags will be available the week-ends of 11-22/11-23
and 11-29/11-30
Please return the unwrapped gift/food item to Mass with
you or to the rectory no later than 12-6
Holiday baskets will be delivered to families on
Saturday, 12-13
Also, if you are interested in adopting a family, please
let us know
We are looking for volunteers to help wrap gifts, assemble
the baskets and deliver them to our families.
If you would like to help, we will be gathering at the 2006
building on Saturday, December 13th from 10 am to 1 pm
