November & December 2014 Newsletter

FROM YOUR COMMANDER
November & December 2014
Hello Troops,
Here we are half way through October. Time is really flying by. Since our last Newsletter, we have made
many improvements in our post. Thanks to the aggressive leadership of our Judge Advocate and House
Committee Chairman, Mr. Armond Bolduc. Armond, along with a group of volunteers and donors has cleaned,
painted and enhanced the appearance of the canteen area. The front half of the Post now has a cleaner, brighter
atmosphere for our members and guest to enjoy. Hopefully, this phase of the remodeling project will be
completed within the next month. Thanks to all of the donors who have purchased the new tables and chairs in
our dining area. Don’t they look great? It is really unbelievable what we have accomplished working as a team.
On Tuesday, October the 7th, I was able to obtain our permit from the city of Debary for our outside pavilion.
We are finally on the schedule to have it erected on or around the 1st of November. It seems our foot got stuck in
the mud with every step of this project, but once completed; it should be a great enhancement to our Post. Due
to the hard work of our volunteers and the generosity of our members, VFW Post 8093 has taken on a leadership position that other Post and organizations wish to follow. They want to be like us!! WOW!!! I know this
because of the comments I receive from other Post Commanders and members of other organizations. My
personal goal is for our Post to make All State this year for which we are on target at this time. Because of your
continuing support, our ship is picking up speed and riding higher in the water.
Until Next Time,
Semper Fi
The Commander

The money raffle we held was a huge success. We sold tickets for two months and decided to call
a halt. We gave away a $1000.00. $ 500.00 for first, $200.00 for second, $ 50.00 for third and $ 40.00 for
fourth and fifth. Needless to say, our winners were very happy people.
We have our Steak Night Dinners once a month and they are doing well. Thank You - to our
Men’s Auxiliary team members for doing an outstanding job at our dinners. We’re not alone——I
have to thank Randy and Armond for manning the grill and putting out steaks to people’s preference.
The Men’s Auxiliary has donated the new “Welcome Matt”, the new “Ice Machine and “Paid to
have the Floors Professionally Cleaned” in the Post. In addition, we have donated funds each month to
help out with the cost of bands. With your support, we can continue to grow and contribute to the Post.
The next Steak Night is November 15th. Get your friends and neighbors on board!!!

WOW!!!! Its that time of year already! The Holidays are right around the corner. It’s time to
start thinking about what we would like to do for our Troops and Veterans for the holidays. In
November, we will be sending out care packages with Christmas stockings to the troops for Christmas.
If you would like to volunteer to fill the boxes, you can notify Roz Hinesly. We are still needing
donations. You can drop them in the box at the front door of the Post.
Also in November, we will be having a fundraiser for Cancer and WOUNDED WARRRIOR
FAMILY. The fundraiser will be called our Legends II. If you were here last year, you will remember
what a great job our members did and it will be even bigger this year. So watch your emails and flyers
in the Post for further details. Hope to see you there. I know everyone has noticed the cleaning and
painting going on inside the Post, its looking great!! It looks so clean and even smells a lot better. We
should all be very proud of our Post. Thanks for the hard work guys and gals.
Our Ladies Auxiliary brunch, on the second Sunday of each month, is going very well. If you
happen to be in the area on Sunday, stop by and enjoy a wonderful meal or just make plans to dine out.
You won’t regret you did. Also don’t forget our Ladies Auxiliary Dinners on the 3rd Wednesday of
every month. Great chef cooking—wonderful food. The Ladies Auxiliary would like to thank everyone
who comes out to support us.
Ladies, it’s that time of year to pay your 2015 dues before December 31, 2014 or you will NOT
be a member in good standing as of January 1, 2015. As of September 1, 2014 the amount of your dues
is $25.00 (NOT $20.00). If you are a new annual member, your dues will be $35.00 initially, after that
they will be $25.00. Per National - any member that waits until December 31, 2015 to pay dues risks the
loss of her benefits for a year and her continuous membership benefits. So ladies, lets get those dues in
as soon as possible. So in closing, November 11th is Veterans Day. When you see a Veteran tell them
Thank You for Your Service. We would not have the freedoms we have today if it were not for our men
and women who have served and sacrificed their lives for us and this great nation where we live. We
say a great big thank you to all of you.
God Bless our Troops and our Veterans and God Bless America!!!
Respectfully,
Shirley Bonds
President
CANTEEN CORNER
Hello to all and a Happy Thanksgiving and Christmas!!!
Two more months of 2014 has passed away with 2015 breathing down on all
of us. The past two months we have had new entertainment, new bingo on Wednesdays, Meat Bingo, Corn
Hole and the list goes on and has kept the list very active. It seems all of you are enjoying the music. We
are having live entertainment every Friday and Saturdays in the month. We think you will love the
selection of the entertainment committee and it should be a fun time for all at the VFW Post 8093!!! Once
a month, the Men’s Auxiliary will be hosting their Steak Dinners along with entertainment. The dinners
have been very successful for the Men’s Auxiliary and they have elected to continue them. So come out
and have a great dinner and dance. The Post now has Bingo on Wednesdays during the day. The Bingo
doors open at 10:00 AM and Sandi is doing a great job as Chairwoman with all her volunteers. THANKYOU!!!
Rounding out 2014, the next two months are going to be busy. In November a lot of new
entertainment. Take a look at your calendars and mark these dates: November 15th—the Men’s Auxiliary

very good entertainers. Tickets will be on sale and more details to follow. Happy Thanksgiving!!!! Enjoy

and have a great day. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! What a way to end 2014!!! Get ready to bring in the New
Year 2015. The Post is having a New Years Eve Party!!! Party favors, balloon drops, champagne toast to
bring in 2015!!! The entertainment for the night is Tommy D. A fun night to finish out the year with the
Post and friends.
January 1st, come to the Post and watch the Bowl Games, and enjoy our drink specials for the
day!! The Post would like to thank everyone who volunteered to make the Post what it is today. The Post
looks great with all the improvements to make it look better and cleaner. Our Sunday Bingo, run by Ron
and Betty Bishop, Jeanette Coe and the rest of the volunteers, have done a tremendous job and we THANK
THEM!! Fred Taylor, Dora Autorino and Mamie Stiener, who does our Meat Bingo and makes it so much
fun. THANK YOU ALL!!! Our Chef “YO”, does a fantastic job with her Dinners, Lunches and Sunday
Brunches. We thank her and her staff for some very good meals. Randy Pollock does the meals for the
Ladies and Men’s Auxiliaries and does a very good job in helping the auxiliaries. Good Job Randy. My
husband Bobby (Stinky) Stiles for being there with me. He helps me in closing, decorating, etc. Always
there for me. Thank-you my love. All-in-all we have good volunteers and we are always looking for more,
so step up and help your Post.
Ok, see all of you at the Post. Remember we have a TROOP BOX at the Post and Roz Hinesly
needs more donations to send to our Troops. God Bless Our Troops and God Bless America!!!

If you didn’t come out to attend the - BARTENDER’S REVENGE - you missed a real good
time. Thanks to all who participated and thanks to the members and guest who came out to harass our
Volunteer Bartenders. The costumes were great and it was just a fun time for everyone. If you missed
it this year, it is an annual event which means you can be there next time.
