Willow Brook Administrator Rhonda Koehn explained. “Elaine came to my office with the idea of a mentoring Some of the participants in our Mentor program. Back row: Don Faller, program. I asked our residents who had been here a while Donna Heins, Elaine Dahlgren, Hollis Miller, Marjorie Watson Front row: Peggy Hanson, Violet Jackson, Mary Ellen Blatchford, Evelyn Kaeding, if they would be interested in participating. We asked what Carol Bittinger, Corrinne Good would make the transition easier, what would make the process smoother? We involved our staff also. It was decided that we would utilize a process where resident mentors would be matched up with new residents to teach them, to give guidance, to be a friend during this transition in their life.” Violet Jackson commented “My mentor and I became friends when I first moved in. She was someone I could talk to and she showed me the ropes.” Violet “paid it forward” and now serves as a mentor herself. New resident Don Faller added “I moved to the new wing to be closer to my wife who is at the Hearthstone. I was driving back and forth from the Columbus area and I realized along with my son that all that driving was no good. Willow Brook and the new wing is way above my expectations. My mentors here helped me realize I made a good choice, it’s like family.” (Editor’s note: While talking to this group I was struck by the sense of camaraderie. The participants have a genuine interest in making the transition to a new situation easier. Their smiles, jokes and laughter (a lot of laughter!) add to the overall atmosphere at Willow Brook -- a warmth that is difficult to explain but easy to see when you are there. Call Rhonda at 402-362-4886 and find out for yourself what Willow Brook can offer.) Recently the nuclear scanner was replaced with a new model, adding to the state-of-the art equipment available in York. Pam Liston, Med/Surg Dept., York General Hospital Nuclear medical imaging uses small amounts of radioactive material to diagnose and determine the severity of or treat a variety of diseases, including many types of cancers, heart disease, gastrointestinal, endocrine, and other abnormalities within the body. Nuclear medicine offers the potential to identify disease in its earliest stages by pinpointing molecular activity within the body.
