Update on Rhiannon Deremo
Back in July, at the Road Runner show, we
were lucky enough to win gift certificates to
Travelers Tack. We pooled our wins together
and had nearly $200 to spend. So, at the
December show, Travelers Tack was invaded
by Michele F., Kelley L., and Sydney who
shopped for us. The end result:
As of a text update from

this week, so feeling hopeful.
She continues to get IV

Chery Brock & Ben
Diana Vance & Ali Baloo
Maddy Jahns & Magic
Miho Schoettker & Rumba
Paula Nelson & Victor and Oliver
Susan Girard & Chico
Prizes given at this show were gift certificates to Zia Graphics, which had to be spent at the
show. This is always a challenge for those of us who show until the very end of the day.
Anyway, problem solved, a lot of Team Royal Salute pooled their certificates together, which in
turn bought horse show t-shirts for Juval - who always works his tail off during the shows! Also,
the group was able to buy Hugo a shirt - who takes care of everything on 53rd street while we
are gone! Thank you, everyone! Very generous!
RESULTS (DRESSAGE):
• Susan and Chico made their debut at 2nd level and qualified for Regionals.
• Paula and Victor made their debut as a team at “Intro” and won their class.
• Christina and Beauty were first-time dressage competitors at training level and came home
with a 1st & 4th.

Formerly the Saguaro Classic, this show has a new name and new management. This show
was formerly put on by two clubs (the East Valley & Valley of the Sun Arabian Horse
Associations), however, earlier this year they had a “divorce” and the end result is the Desert
Classic Show hosted by VSAHA.

Scorpion Adventures at WestWorld - We will be notifying WestWorld of these problems...
•
Victor: had to be scratched from the show due to a sudden lameness on-set, heat, swelling
and acute pain. Later, an oozie scabby spot determined it was a scorpion sting!
•
Juval: had a scorpion sitting on his coat while he was grooming a horse!
•
Kerri: squealed like a little girl while unloading the mirror from the trailer, after she discovered
she had a friend riding on the mirror (yes, another scorpion).
THANK YOU’S:
As we all know, it takes hours and hours of work to make this show a success. The majority of
these hours are “volunteer positions.” I really appreciate all the hours you give to Royal Salute!

You were all fabulous volunteers. Thank you so much making the show run so well.

Incredible Show - Incredible Volunteers!
I just wanted to take the time to thank each of the MANY Royal Salute
Volunteers whose enthusiasm and professionalism helped make the initial
Desert Classic one of the best shows I have been associated with.
Despite the rain that fell on Thursday that closed all of WestWorld's
outdoor rings, everyone pitched in to make the necessary changes to ensure
all the exhibitors were able to show their horses in dry conditions on a
level playing field. And a special thank you to those of you who responded
with a smile on Thursday morning when I announced we needed to move jumps
out of the muck that was formerly Ring 5. It was done smoothly and safely
and we got things up and running for our jumping exhibitors without
impacting the afternoon's 1:00 PM start time!
We had 311 horses entered this year, down a little from last year's 341 but
definitely a success in this day and age! More importantly was how
wholeheartedly the volunteers contributed to the smooth running of the show!
The judges noticed and were suitable impressed!
And a special thank you to Diann Wuttke for her efforts to line up the
volunteers in such a timely fashion. I was able to mail the complete list to
Show Manager Cindy Reid three weeks before the show to let her know we were
ready for another great show!
I thoroughly enjoyed watching the Royal Salute team do so well at the show,
whether competing in Jumping, Sport Horse Under Saddle, Sport Horse in Hand
or Dressage.
Thank you again for the superb support of the Desert Classic!
