Regardless, the past few months has been good to those with cattle to sell, and perhaps will lead to a much more Merry Christmas than might have been hoped for earlier in the year. Meanwhile, there were no prices given for market weight steers or heifers, either live or rail grade. Upper weight feeder steers and heifers also showed a drop in prices, along with somewhat lower cull cattle prices. Feeder steer and heifer prices also showed a bit of a drop on some weights, yet others were slightly higher; a somewhat mixed bag. It was interesting to note there were no prices shown for the heavy weight steers or heifers. We noted a Steers 900 -plus 800 - 900 700 - 800 600 - 700 500 - 600 400 - 500 300 - 400 N/A N/A 240.00 - 249.00 252.00 - 267.00 280.00 - 302.00 312.00 - 341.00 360.00 - 392.00 900 -plus 800 - 900 700 - 800 600 - 700 500 - 600 400 - 500 300 - 400 N/A 216.00 - 222.00 225.00 - 232.00 241.00 - 260.00 256.00 - 268.00 271.00 - 281.00 N/A HEIFERS tightening of prices within the range as well. Prices shown for cull cattle also indicate market animals are down slightly in price. D1 and D2 cows were up $5 to sell at $122 to $135 per cwt. D3 cows were also up $5, bringing $110 to $120 per cwt. Bulls took a $5 increase as well, bringing $133 to $150 per cwt. All information sourced from Statistics Canada, Alberta Agriculture and Canfax. Their information is supplied by various auction markets throughout the province, so prices at local markets will vary. Producers are reminded to check with individual markets on current prices and trends. Prices shown in this report include top quality cattle only.
