This opportunity comes at a particularly exciting time as we look to build on the success created following a series of high profile events associated with the UK. These have included: the GREAT campaign, the GREAT Festival, and the UK culture year of 2015. In the upcoming year, there are more exciting opportunities ahead of us. The UK also has a huge variety of engaging selling points, including a plethora of world famous designers, innovators, and scientists, captivating history and heritage, vibrant contemporary cultural scene with particular strengths in music, and literature—all of which can be used to raise the profile of the UK in China, contributing directly and indirectly to the British Government’s prosperity agenda. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate that they have the skills to engage our online target audience. S/he will need to have a proven track record in digital media. Good team working and interpersonal and communication skills are also essential. Designing, implementing, and promoting innovative video content is also essential for this role. Offline campaigning will also feature prominently throughout this exciting role and give the job holder the opportunity to develop in areas including, but not limited to, marketing and communications. In addition, occasionally the job holder will support the Head of Section in coordinating activities falling within the values agenda, and be an active team member in implementing the essential elements of high level visits from the UK to China. Approximate ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (What will the jobholder be expected to achieve?) % of time Managing the Consulate’s online branding, communications and activities by using existing digital 40 media platforms; reviewing new technologies; and exploring new developments in the digital landscape, as well as incorporating creative ideas to leverage the Consulate’s online presence to meet agreed objectives. Providing data analysis and evaluation of activities carried out (statistical and qualitative) As an “in-house journalist”, in addition to specific digital communications remit, there will be various opportunities to collaborate with all sections of the Consulate. 30 Public Diplomacy initiatives feature prominently in work of the communications team, and the job holder will be expected to help facilitate both online and offline activities. Assist in the planning of high-level events and developing communications strategies and responsibility for internal digital communications. Online news researching skills would be advantageous.
