Nail students named ‘best of the best’ in the UK
Nail students from the College are celebrating after picking up multiple award wins including a Gold medal at the recent WorldSkills
UK National Competitions at the NEC Birmingham.
Fatemeh Parhiz, 36, from Chester, came first in the Intermediate Nail Enhancement WorldSkills UK Competition after competing
against nine other regional champions from across the UK.
West Cheshire College also won the College Cup, which was awarded to the highest placing College across all categories
and was introduced for the first time this year by Professional Beauty North.
Fatemeh Parhiz, said: “My tutor asked me if I was interested in being involved in the competitions and I was over the
moon to be asked.
“To win both the Professional Beauty North Nail Championships and now to win the WorldSkills UK national
competition is amazing and I am so proud to have been part of it.”
Andrea Rimmer, West Cheshire College Senior Lecturer and CND Education Ambassador, said: “The students were
absolutely fantastic at both events and did really well to score so highly - it’s wonderful to see our students winning both

Earn while you learn with an
Apprenticeship
We offer many Apprenticeships from accounting, creative and digital media,
through to retail, pharmacy and team leading and management. You can gain
skills and qualifications, some of which go up to degree level, while working and
earning.
Apprenticeships give you the opportunity to gain on the job training, experience
and qualifications that employers want and need.
An Apprenticeship or going to university are equally prestigious routes to a
great career and secure finances in the years ahead.

Apprenticeship
A former

after securing a

Michael Crotty,
23, from
Wallasey, has recently completed a four-year
Apprenticeship in Engineering at the Chester-
Student secures Head Chef role at
ski resort
based manufacturer. After impressing his
employers with his skills and enthusiasm,
he secured a permanent position as a
Maintenance Engineer.
Michael said: “The Apprenticeship was great
as I got to combine hands-on work experience
with theory work.
“I learnt so much from my Apprenticeship
and it has been the best way to kick-start
my career. I have a lot of friends who are at
university and I feel like I’m in a better position
than them thanks to the Apprenticeship.
“I’m delighted that I have secured a permanent
role at Encirc (UK) and I’m excited for the
challenge that my new role will bring me.”
A hospitality and catering student from the College
will be jetting off to Europe for the ski season as Head
Chef at the Austrian ski resort, St Anton.
George Wheeler, 22, from Chester, who completed his
City & Guilds Diploma in Professional Cookery course
in November, said: “I had to go to London for the
interview with Flexiski. We did various group tasks and we also had to make a
cold starter - I made a mackerel pâté and beetroot and orange salad.
He added: “I’ve done both an Apprenticeship and a Level 3 course at the
College so I’ve really built up my experience and qualifications.
“It’s such a big opportunity but I’m really looking forward to it. I’m a big fan of
skiing so this really is my dream job.”
Great employers.
Great opportunities.
Great prospects.
