PROMO DAY:
@UWMSPORTREC
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art, combat sport and a self defense system that focuses
on grappling and especially ground fighting. It teaches that a smaller, weaker person can
successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger assailant by using leverage and
proper technique - most notably by applying joint locks and choke holds to defeat the
other person. Jiu-Jitsu is a complete sport that integrates physical, mental, and spiritual
aspects, as well as developing necessary physical qualities such as force, resistance,
flexibility, coordination, agility, speed, etc. It helps you think faster and clearer, and provides
self-control, confidence, determination and serenity. A special course fee of $78.00.

art. We learned in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu 1 that there are 1,000 ways of doing each move, and
that there is not necessarily a “right way” of applying a technique. In this class, each student
will focus on developing his or her own style of Jiu-Jitsu. Special course fee of $75.00. A

SPT&REC 298 : MEDITATION, RELAXATION, & WELLNESS
SPT&REC 298 : MEDITATION
Meditation is not something that can be learned from books. It needs to be experienced
first hand to be properly understood. In ancient yogic texts the sages use the example of a
person trying to describe the taste of honey to someone who has never tasted something
sweet. No matter how precisely the words describe the experience of sweet it is only by
tasting the honey yourself that you can really understand it properly. Meditation is a journey
into your own self. It is the process of finding peace within your own being and the direct
experience of that peace. It has to be practiced regularly over a period of time to begin to
understand the process and to glimpse the profound nature of the experience. The system
of meditation that will be taught in this course is the Raja Yoga system of the Himalayan
Tradition. The Himalayan Tradition of raja yoga is a living tradition that has been passed
down from teacher to student in an unbroken lineage for over 5000 years. Nina Johnson
has been a student of mediation for over 30 years. She is the Director of the Himalayan
Yoga Meditation Society of Milwaukee and was trained by her teacher Sri Swami Rama.
Each class in this course will include a lecture, a discussion period with questions and
answers and a practice session. It is recommened that students bring a cushion.
