Since 2009, Carey has served on the White House
Task Force on Fatherhood and Healthy Families.
He also serves as a member of the executive
committee of the National Fatherhood Leaders
Group, which promotes responsible fatherhood
policy, research, advocacy and practice. In June of
2012, Carey was selected as a Fatherhood
Champion of Change, as part of President
Obama’s “Winning the Future” initiative, honoring
those individuals shaping the fatherhood field and
fathers themselves through their diligent work as
“Fatherhood Champions of Change.”
Mark Perlman, Nurturing Fathers
Mark has 35 years of experience working with
parents, children and families in strengthening the
family bond. He authored “The Nurturing Father’s
Program,” a 13-week parenting curriculum for men
that has been utilized by thousands of fathers and
implemented by organizations such as Prevent
Child Abuse, Head Start, Milwaukee Fatherhood
Initiative, and the North Carolina Department of
Corrections. As part of the Children’s Coalition
Fatherhood Initiative, funded by the Sisters of
Charity, Mark will train a network of fathers who
will serve as team leaders in their community.

provides Continuing Educational Units (CEUs) in specific career paths – education, nursing, social work and counseling – as well as
special panels and presentations from state and national agencies on current initiatives related to early childhood care and
education, and adolescent health.
