Fire Department was called to 10 Shotgun Rd. around 6:00 p.m. Saturday. Homeowners Marcella and Jeff Wright were burning wood in the fireplace when they noticed smoke coming from the attic. The fire had spread from the fireplace into the attic and had extended into the second story crawl space. The fire department estimated damage about $150,000. in all patrol cars. They were purchased after the City Council approved the funds to equip each unit with the life saving devices. Each police officer has been trained in the use of AED and CPR. Officers who are usually first on the scene will be able to administer life saving techniques and increase the survivability rate of a citizen without delay. ♦ TEEN HIT BY TRACTOR TRAILER ♦ The Gordon Co. Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigation An Acworth teen is in critical condition after an accident around 8 p.m. Friday on I-75 at the 281 mile marker. The Ga. State Patrol said Bret Dunham, 52, Acworth, was changing a tire and being helped by his stepson, Chris Abernathy, 14, on the right shoulder of I-75 when a tractor trailer traveling north, left its lane and hit Abernathy. Abernathy was airlifted to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. Charges are pending against the tractor trailer driver. into the theft of SPLOST funds in the City of Ranger. On Saturday the mayor of Ranger reported the theft of a significant amount of funds from the municipal government. It is understood that the funds were Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) revenue. The amount believed to be missing exceeds $150,000. The investigation is focusing on an administrative employee as the primary person of interest. The mayor and other elected officials are cooperating fully. Gordon Co. Sheriff's detectives expect to complete their inquiry within a few weeks and it will result in a criminal prosecution. ♦ TASER NO MATCH FOR SUSPECT Bartow Co. Sheriff's Deputies were called to 36 Shag Bark Dr., Cartersville, after a man tried to get into the basement of the home. When officers arrived they heard a man yelling. Joel Dudley, II, 26, walked from behind the house. The officer told him to get on the ground and he refused many times before he was tased. After he was tased several times and didn't comply officers had to force Dudley to the ground. Dudley is charged with public drunkenness, prowling and obstruction of officers. $2 Domestic Beer ♦ Former NFL player, Robert Konrad, is in the hospital after he fell off a boat and swam about 9 miles to the Florida shore.
