DIARY Dolvin Elementary School Laura Zoll, Principal January 8, 2015 Sarah Ann McConnell, Assistant Principal Dear Dolvin Families: Dolvin continues to soar: Iowa Test of Basic Skills Results Students in grades 3 and 5 participated in testing during October. As you can see, our scores continue to grow. The hard work our students and teachers are doing is showing!! Our grade level averages for all students are as follows: Dolvin Grade 3 Mean National Percentile (+ from administration from fall of 2013) Reading 83% (-1) Math 90% (-1) Total Language 82% (-3) Social Studies 90% (+2) Science 86% (-2) County Mean National Percentile Dolvin Grades 5 Mean National Percentile (+/- from administration from fall of 2013) County Mean National Percentile Reading Math Total Language Social Studies Science 82% 85% 85% 85% 84% (-2) (-4) (-1) (+0) (-1) 64% 69% 61% 70% 69% 61% 67% 65% 69% 69% (-2) (-3) (-5) (-2) (-2) (-3) (-5) (-4) (-3) (-2) While these test scores do provide the school and parents with valuable information, the scores are only one indicator of success. The overall effect is that students today must obtain a higher raw score than students in previous years in order to obtain the same percentile rank based on changes in the norms in 2005. Individual score reports have been mailed. If you have not received the results for your third or fifth grade student, please contact the classroom teacher. Parent Symbaloo: http://www.symbaloo.com/mix/parentresources141 We need your help!! Surveys will be a part of our school data and College and Career Ready Performance Index again this year! This is the second year that the Georgia Parent Survey has been administered. Data from the Georgia Parent Survey will be used to calculate the School Climate Star Rating within the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) to determine a correlation between the student responses on the Georgia Student Health Survey II and school personnel responses on the Georgia School Personnel Survey. Please note that the surveys will officially open on Monday, November 3, 2014, and will remain open through Friday, February 27, 2015. You can complete the survey using your personal computers, smartphones or iPads. The Georgia Parent Survey is also modeled after the student survey and contains 24 questions. A Spanish version of the parent survey will be available soon. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. Data results from the Georgia Parent Survey will not be available to the public and will not be posted online. All parents should participate in the Georgia Parent Survey. The link to the Georgia Parent Survey is posted below. After you click on the link, a drop-down menu will appear and the parent will use the drop-down menu to select their school district and their school. Georgia Parent Survey http://apps.gadoe.org/schoolclimate/parents.nsf/Survey.xsp Young Georgia Authors Writing Competition The time has finally arrived for the K - 5 Young Georgia Authors (YGA) Writing Competition. All entries are due by Friday, February 6, at 2:00 p.m. No exceptions. The purpose of the Young Georgia Authors writing competition is to encourage students to develop enthusiasm for and expertise in their writing, to provide a context to celebrate their writing success, and to recognize student achievement in arts and academics. The YGA allows the student a choice in the genre and style. If typed, then there is a 5-page maximum length limit (Times New Roman, 12 point font, double spaced). The writing must be on 8.5 x 11” paper and the writing should be only on one side of the paper. Dictated stories cannot be accepted. Do not bind, make a cover for, decorate, laminate, or otherwise alter the original paper on which the entry is written. The Humanities Committee will choose a representative from each grade. The students will be scored on Ideas (40%), Style (20%), Organization (20%), and Conventions (20%). If you have any questions, please contact Katie Colson at colson@fultonschools.org. Dolvin Diary is published every Thursday. Articles for consideration must be submitted by Tuesday of the preceding week. Articles submitted after deadline are subject to space availability. All submissions may be edited as space allows. Please send articles for consideration to carper@fultonschools.org.
