DIARY Dolvin Elementary School Laura Zoll, Principal November 6, 2014 Sarah Ann McConnell, Assistant Principal Dear Dolvin Families: We are so excited to let you know about the great progress our School Governance Council (SGC) is making. As you may already know, the SGC’s Strategic Plan was recently approved by the Fulton County Board of Education. The SGC has now written our Request for Flexibility (RFF), and will hold an open meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at Dolvin Elementary. We will use this open meeting to receive community feedback regarding the RFF. Please click HERE to view the RFF. To register for the meeting, click: SIGN UP. You may also submit written feedback by using the SGC comment box located in the Dolvin Elementary front office. Please contact Kim Hochman if you have any questions at: HochmanK@fultonschools.org. Warmly, Laura Zoll We need your help!! We are tracking our student tardies each month. Our number of tardies for last month was very alarming. Out of 872 students, we had 333 tardies from October 1 st through October 30th. Please help your child by getting them to school on time. That means students should be in their seats ready for learning at 7:40 am… not just inside the front door of the school! A student who is tardy is starting the academic day at a disadvantage and causing an interruption in the learning day for other students. We have noticed a large number of tardy students this year, and the cold weather hasn’t even hit yet. We have to report to the state the number and frequency of our tardy arrivals. Our school social worker will be following up with parents whose children have a pattern of tardiness. Students with 15 or more unexcused tardies will be referred to the Attendance Intervention Module (AIM) program. Remember students on the bus are never counted as tardy, even when there may be a traffic challenge along the route. Our buses are usually here and unloaded by 7:30 a.m. giving students ample time to get down the hallways and into class. Thank you for your cooperation. If you have questions regarding your child's attendance, please contact Sally Frey, Professional Assistant, or Rachel Kitchens-Cole, School Social Worker, (404) 682-8954. 10495 Jones Bridge Road • Johns Creek, GA 30022 • (770) 740-7020 • www.Dolvin.org Dolvin Diary Page 2 November 6, 2014 Fall Family Fun Night Needs You!! Redistricting Meetings Set for New Elementary Schools, Middle School Additions Three community meetings are set for October 8, November 5, and December 10, to address the redistricting process for two new schools in Roswell as well as classroom additions at three North Fulton middle schools. Each time a redistricting effort is under way, the school system holds three rounds of meetings to gather information needed to draft a redistricting proposal that best meets the community’s needs. Unlike other school systems, Fulton uses a process that encourages public discussion before developing a proposal. This allows the community to have maximum input in how the proposed attendance lines are created. Meetings are planned for: Round One – October 8, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Centennial High School Round Two – November 5, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Alpharetta High School Round Three – December 10, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Centennial High School To maximize input, parents and community members also can participate online through the redistricting website (http://www.fultonschools.org/en/divisions/ops/plan/Pages/ Redistricting.aspx) once it goes live on October 8. One of the schools (“Highway 9 Elementary School”) is already under construction at the intersection of Highway 9 and Thomas Drive in Roswell. Scheduled to open in August of 2015, it will temporarily serve as Esther Jackson Elementary School for one year so that school can be torn down and rebuilt on its site. Once the new Esther Jackson opens in August 2016, the Highway 9 school will re-open with a new identity (official name TBD) to the students in its newly developed attendance zone. Classroom additions being built at three middle schools (Autrey Mill Middle School, Hopewell Middle School, and Taylor Road Middle School) also require that attendance zones in area schools be examined so that enrollments can be balanced. High school boundaries will be reviewed at the same time, but only to address any feeder pattern misalignments that could occur from middle school adjustments. The Fulton County Board of Education is scheduled to vote on the new attendance zones in February of 2015. Changes in middle school attendance zones will go into effect in August 2015 with elementary zone changes following in August 2016.
