YMCA YOUTH VACATION CARE
INFORMATION PAGE
DROP OFF / PICK UP
The youth vacation care service will operate 8.00am – 6.00pm Monday – Thursday and 8.00am – 8.00pm
Fridays. The service will be based at the Nth Ainslie Primary School, Majura Ave Ainslie.
The structure of the youth vacation care is as follows

Open, children are able to be signed in for the day at Nth Ainslie
Bus arrives to collect children for excursion, if you arrive after this
time please contact the service mobile on 0412 114 331
On excursion (These times are approximate, please see highlight sheet for
exact times)
The children will be located at YMCA Bush Capital Lodge, 191 Dryandra St,
O’Connor (BCL) or YMCA Aquatic Recreation Centre, 35 Alexandrina Dve,
Yarralumla (ARC). Whilst at BCL or ARC children will participate in free
choice activities including but not limited to card / board games, art
experiences, cooking, movies, Wii / Playstation, reading, local walks.
Bus leaves venue for Nth Ainslie.
Children at Nth Ainslie for the remainder of the day, if you would like to
collect your child before this time please call the service mobile on 0412
114 331. Fridays the children will need to be collected from BCL or
ARC as per highlight sheet as we will not be returning to Nth Ainslie.
FRIDAY NIGHTS
The youth vacation care will operate a late night service on Fridays 6.00pm - 8.00pm. This service will be
at an extra cost to normal daily fees and therefore does not attract CCB / CCR. If you do not want your
child to participate in this program please ensure your child is collected from the service by 6.00pm. If your
child remains after 6.00pm you will have the service fee applied to your account. All children will need to
be collected from BCL or ARC as we will not be returning to Nth Ainslie. Children do not have to attend
during the day to attend on Friday nights.
TRANSPORT
Transport for the youth program will be by private 25seat mini bus. YMCA educators whom hold a heavy
vehicle licence will be driving the vehicle, 2 additional educators will always be on board.
FEES
The daily fee is $100.00 per child from 8.00 am –6.00 pm. This includes all food, excursions and
activities. As this is an approved service CCB / CCR is available for all eligible families and could reduce
your fees by up to 50%.
The cost for Friday night service is $20.00 per child from 6.00pm – 8.00pm (not eligible for CCB / CCR).
FOOD
YMCA will provide Morning Tea, Lunch & Afternoon Tea as part of the daily fee.
Morning Tea & Afternoon Tea will consist of fruit plus extras. Lunch will be an order system, families are
asked to select from the menu daily food preferences for their child. Due to catering purposes this selection
needs to be made upon enrolment into the program.
Children are able to bring their own food however this will not result in a fee reduction. Please do not bring
food which contains nuts.
SPENDING MONEY
When stated on the highlight sheet, children are able to bring spending money to purchase items during the
excursion or local walks. Please limit the amount of spending money to no more than $20.00, this money
will need to remain with the child in a purse or wallet. No responsibility will be taken by educators for the
safeguarding of this money.
TECHNOLOGY
Children are able to bring personal use technology to the youth vacation care service e.g. Tablets, Phones
etc. Children will be encouraged to regulate the use of technology throughout the day and there will be
times that children are asked not to use technology items e.g. excursions, when participating in group
activities. No responsibility will be taken by YMCA or educators for the safeguarding of these items.
SWIMMING & WATER SPORTS
Children will have the option to participate in swimming and water sports as part of the youth vacation
care program. Children MUST be able to competently swim 50 meters unassisted to participate in water
sport activities. Children’s swimming ability will be assessed by YMCA educators before being allowed to
participate in swimming activities; coloured bands will be given to children based on ability. Life vests will
be provided to children whilst partaking in sailing, canoeing and paddle boarding, these activities will be
provided by YMCA Sailing Club. Participants of sailing activities need to bring a hat, water-bottle, sunscreen,
chap stick, towel, sun-smart clothing Rashies are perfect! (No singlet/tank tops please), a change of spare
clothing, enclosed footwear for sailing (e.g. crocs, old sneakers or wet boots) and a change of footwear.
There will be non water based activities available to all children at these times.

Fees: The daily fee is $100.00 per child from 8.00 am –6.00 pm. This
includes all food, excursions and activities. As this is an approved
service CCB / CCR is available for all eligible families and could reduce

The cost for Friday night service is $20.00 per child from 6.00pm –

Conditions: Refunds or credits are not given unless a program is canceled
by the YMCA of Canberra.
Excursions: To ensure that the program runs according to schedule,
you are required to arrive at least (10 minutes) prior to the departure
time. Information regarding departure times, special requirements or late
changes to programs are displayed at the centre and can also be obtained
by calling the YMCA Children’s Services Headquarters. Risk assessments
are completed for each excursion and are available at the program. The
anticipated number of children attending excursions will be 22.
Children may participate in local excursions within a 2km radius. Children
will walk to destinations and will be supervised by educators at all times. I
understand that due care will be taken by YMCA employees and that the
employee cannot be held responsible for any damage or injury occurring
during travel.
Drop off and pick up: At the commencement of each morning, you are
required to sign the child/ren in on the roll. The child/ren must also be
signed out and will not be allowed to leave the centre with any person other
than those nominated on this booking form. Written notification is required
to allow another person to collect the child/ren.
Late Fees: To cover staffing requirements, a fee of $5 per minute per
child will be charged to your account after 6 pm.

Behaviour Management: I/We have read the OSHC Behavioural Guidance
Policy http://www.canberra.ymca.org.au/childrenservices/policies/Pages/
default.aspx & agree to abide by the guidelines.
I/We have informed the child/ren of the guidelines and take responsibility
for them abiding by the guidelines. I/We understand that there are
consequences for not following the Behaviour Guidance Policy and that the
positive strategies that are outlined in the Policy will be implemented if the
child/ren is in breach of the guidelines.
Parent Handbook: I/We have read the YMCA Outside School Hours Care
Parent Handbook and agree to be bound by the information and policies
outlined by YMCA therein. The YMCA Outside School Hours Care Parent
Handbook is available on our website (www.canberra.ymca.org.au) or
please ask the vacation care centre or the office for a copy.
What to bring: Please pack the child/ren a healthy morning tea, healthy
lunch, healthy afternoon tea, a drink bottle, a hat, a jumper and appropriate
shoes for daily activities. Please do not bring food which needs to be heated
or that contains nuts.

SWIMMING ABILITY

Please note this form MUST be completed in order for your child to participate in water based activities,
children who do not have a form will not be allowed to participate in water based activities.
The child’s safety is our first priority. We have strict rules regarding behaviour, entering and exiting the
pool, movement around the pool and health issues. One person in attendance has a Senior First Aid
and CPR accreditation. A telephone is available to get immediate medical assistance should the
occasion arise.
EVERY CHILD MUST HAVE:
A towel, appropriate swimwear, changes of clothes and a bag to carry all their gear.
