India is one of the top-ranking countries in the field of basic research.
Indian Science has come to be regarded as one of the most powerful
instruments of growth and development, especially in the emerging
scenario and competitive economy. In the wake of the recent
developments and the new demands that are being placed on the S&T
system, it is necessary for us to embark on some major science projects
which have relevance to national needs and which will also be relevant
for tomorrow's technology. The Department of Science & Technology
plays a pivotal role in promotion of science & technology in the country.

About INSPIRE
10. Permanent Address of Student
INnovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired REsearch (INSPIRE)"
(http://www.inspire-dst.gov.in) is an innovative programme sponsored
and managed by the Department of Science & Technology for attraction
of talent to Science. The basic objective of INSPIRE is to communicate
to the youth of the country the excitements of creative pursuit of
science, attract talent to the study of science at an early age and thus
build the required critical human resource pool for strengthening and
expanding the Science & Technology system and R & D base. A striking
feature of the programme is that it does not believe in conducting
competitive exams for identification of talent at any level. It believes in
and relies on the efficacy of the existing educational structure for
identification of talent.
The objective of organizing the INSPIRE Internship camp is to reveal
the joys of innovation to the talented youth of the nation to pursue study
in science and career in Research and Development.
