Call for Applications Study Trip to the United States of America „E Pluribus Unum. Out of Many, One.“ August 16th — August 29th 2015 ____________________________________________________________________ About the Study Trip – Theme & Program: When the United States Congress adopted ‘E Pluribus Unum’ as one of the young nation’s mottos, the representative body of the American people intended to send a strong signal both domestically as well as internationally: out of many, one. From different religious, ethnic, cultural and political backgrounds, the United States of America provided common ground not despite of, but because of the diversity of its society. In an increasingly disruptive international order, Europe and the United States must move closer together as the gravity center for peace, freedom and security — now it is up to us to find common ground. No other regions in the world share such a coherence and depth in values, interests and perspectives as both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. However, our commitment to stronger transatlantic relations does not mean we are going to ignore differences in opinions and attitudes, at the contrary, we see a need to actively address and resolve these challenges. As Initiative junger Transatlantiker / Young Transatlantic Initiative, our goal is to contribute to this understanding between civil society and key decision-makers of our nations, by engaging the younger generations in a public discourse. Young enthusiasts set the agenda for the next transatlantic decades — that is the mission of our organization. How do we want to increase culture ‘exposure’ between young Americans and Europeans? What is the agenda of economic cooperation beyond TTIP? How should Europe and America define their respective roles in world affairs to develop a common strategic vision? From NGOs to international organizations, from diplomatic corps to think tanks, we will meet with a broad spectrum of experts on transatlantic relations. Besides official meetings and appointments, we will also gladly offer plenty of free time to explore the East Coast: from a Yankees game in New York City to a walk on the National Mall in Washington, D.C,. we are sure to offer you an unforgettable experience. Our teams on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean are working hard to finalize the speakers list. After spending five days in the „city that never sleeps,“ we will spend our weekend in Philadelphia (PA) and travel to Washington, D.C., the nation’s capital. The program ends August 29th. Afterwards, you can either stay in Washington, D.C., or travel together back to NYC by bus (included in the participation fee). Participants: 25 persons The Host: The Initiative junger Transatlantiker (IjT) / Young Transatlantic Initiative (YTI) is a politically independent, nonprofit organization committed to improve German-American relations and to strengthen transatlantic understanding. It connects 400 members in 7 countries, dedicated to renew the transatlantic partnership in the young generations on both sides of the Atlantic. Participation Fee: 1st payment: 565,00 EUR (Accommodation) 2nd playment: Approx. 135 EUR (Transportation, Trip Material, Fees) Including: Accommodation in New York City (NY), Philadelphia (PA) and Washington (DC); local transportation in New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, DC; entrance fees for museums, exhibitions and the Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET) in New York City; comprehensive trip material; all administrative costs; transfers from New York City to Philadelphia, from Philadelphia to Washington, DC, and Washington, DC, back to New York City. Not included: Flights to the US; (optional) costs for U.S. visa and ESTA registration.; food and drinks. Remarks: The first payment of 565,00 EUR is necessary to confirm your participation. Unfortunately, we do not offer travel grants. Due to increasing accommodation prices, we kindly ask for your confirmation fee as soon as possible but not later than March 1st. Participants have the opportunity to stay longer before/after the study trip on their own expenses.
