Aveley Primary School A Centre of Learning for Over One Hundred Years www.aveleyprimary.net Spring Term Newsletter 010 20th January 2015 Dear Parents, 2015 did not start as we had planned with the sad and unexpected news that Mrs Jan Foy had passed away on Monday 5th January. Mrs Foy has lived in Aveley all her life and worked at Aveley Primary since September 1986. (Originally at Aveley Junior School). Mrs Foy volunteered at Aveley Infants School before working at the school, originally working as a Welfare Assistant, then a Midday Assistant before beginning to work in the school office selling dinner tickets. Mrs Foy was invaluable as the Admin Assistant in 2001 as I joined Aveley Primary. She was the person that everyone visiting or ringing the school spoke to first. Mrs Foy knew everyone’s name, knew everyone’s family and would do her utmost to ensure that everyone was safe and happy, be that passing on a message, sorting out a forgotten lunch and even sewing split trousers! Mrs Foy was very proud to be a member of Aveley Primary School and we will all miss and remember her friendly, caring presence. Our book of Condolence is still available in the school foyer for any families that would like to leave a message. We have ordered flowers on behalf of the school community and would now like to plan for a tribute fitting for such an exceptional lady. Thank-you to everyone that has returned their slip for Thursday. Children that are staying to pay their respects to Mrs Foy will have their packed lunch early at approximately 11.45am before we gather on the front playground for approximately 12.30pm. Unfortunately, in order to keep everyone safe, we are unable to invite parents to join us on the playground, but the school gates will be opened just after 1pm to allow parents to collect their children once the family have moved on to the Church. BUG CLUB UPDATE You will have received a letter informing you of the updated access information for the Bug Club website which now also allows access via an ipad. Unfortunately the children’s logins and passwords have not all been transferred smoothly across to the new site. As this is a paid subscription service, we are currently awaiting for this situation to be rectified. We shall update you just as soon as we have more information. Thank you for your understanding and patience. EARLY BIRDS We are delighted that our children are keen to come to school, but there is a small group of early birds gathering in the, still very dark, playground just after 8:00 am. We must remind parents that the playground is not supervised at this time of day and we would urge you to take advantage of our Breakfast Club that opens at 8:00 am. For £1.50 per child the Breakfast Club offers pupils a choice of cereal or toast and a drink of juice or milk. After breakfast the children can choose to take part in a variety of activities and on Monday and Wednesday’s the Club is supported by an outside provider of sports coaching, who offers supervised games to the children in our MultiUse games Area or Hall.
