NEWS RELEASE January 2015 Channel Islands sailing enthusiasts invite UK participants to their biggest race of the year Preparations are underway for the Carey Olsen Inter-Island Yacht Race, the biggest sailing event in the Channel Islands, which alternates in direction between Jersey and Guernsey each year. This year the race will begin in Jersey at 8.30am on Saturday 6 June with a fleet of up to 100 yachts racing along the island's south coast to Corbière before crossing to Guernsey and the finish line at Castle Cornet in St Peter Port, some 24 miles later. Once on dry land, there will be a gala dinner in a marquee at the Guernsey Yacht Club with prize giving, a guest speaker and dancing for the 450 crew members. Daryl Rix, commodore of the Guernsey Yacht Club said: “The Carey Olsen Inter-Island Yacht Race is very well supported by local sailors and we are keen to attract competitors from the south coast of England too. Amongst the many prizes, this year we will be awarding one for the first placed non-Channel Island registered boat (under the Channel Islands Handicap System, “CIHS”).” Awards in other categories include: • First to Finish • Second and Third in both the IRC class and the non-IRC class • First Bilge Keel (under CIHS) • First Long Keel (under CIHS) • First J Boat (under CIHS) //G6732919v1 1 • First Multihull (under CIHS) • First Two Handed (under CIHS) • First Oldest Helm (under CIHS) • First Quarter Tonner (under CIHS) • First family crewed (under CIHS) - to be eligible for the Family Crewed class a boat must be crewed by the owner and their immediate family (defined as their parents / spouse / children and grandchildren); no other person may be on board. • First Female Helm (under CIHS) • First Young Helm (under CIHS) - for under 25 year olds only. Carey Olsen has been sponsoring the Yacht Race since 2010 and managing partner, Alex Ohlsson, said: “It has become a hugely popular event in both yachting and social calendars in the Channel Islands. The range of categories covers seasoned crews, families and young skippers, making it a day for sailing enthusiasts of all levels followed by a very enjoyable evening." The Carey Olsen Inter-Island Yacht Race will accept SERs for Yachts wishing to race in the IRC class. Completed application forms must then be submitted by email to info@rorcrating.com at least 14 days prior to the event stating the event reference number and dates for which the SERs is to be valid.
