YOUNG ADULT MINISTRY “Sons and Daughters of the Light” is a pastoral plan developed by the National Conference of Catholic Bishops which emphasizes ministering to and with young adults. The desired outcome is that the Church realizes and recognizes the tremendous gifts that our young adults bring to the life of the Church. Our goal is to connect our young people with Jesus Christ and his challenge to bring the Gospel with its message of hope to society. This ministry is open to all single, married, married with children ages 18- 30. We are here to support young adult Catholics in their desire to enter more deeply into a relationship with Jesus Christ through fellowship and formation in the Catholic Faith. Our Ministry includes: social gatherings, support for local parish programs opportunities for community outreach, prayer, athletic and outdoor events. We are so pleased to have Charles and Tina Lyons take on the coordination of this vital ministry. They are passionate, enthusiastic and so willing to provide an atmosphere of hospitality, friendship and spiritual nourishment. Please call Lin at [321]727.1565 or email Wyattl@st-joe.org for more information. SENIOR HIGH YOUTH MINISTRY Our Senior High Youth Ministry seeks to facilitate the active involvement in parish life and prayer of senior high students. Unfortunately every year there are some families of our confirmandi who are unemployed or under employed. The cost for this weekend is $100 per student. Therefore, we are asking once again any parishioners who can and wish to help defray the cost for a few of our students to call Lin at the parish office, 727-1565. Any amount will be greatly appreciated. God will abundantly bless you for your kindness and generosity. MORE Care more than others think necessary, Trust more than others think wise, Serve more than others think practical. -Anonymous 802 Page 5 February 1, 2015 FAMILY LIFE: THE HEART OF THE CHURCH It is obvious to all of us that our world remains gripped by a constant stream of violence that screams to us from all forms of media: the terrorist attacks in Paris, wars in the Middle East, gun violence in our neighborhoods, bullying in our schools, domestic violence just to name a few. To add salt to the wound, we Americans find ourselves enthralled spectators watching the world and local news, and the violent television shows and movies. We have a tendency to actually believe that we are passive observers and not affected by it. We casually call it entertainment. It that were true we would be a nation at peace. So what are we to do – turn off all media, live in a shell and pretend we are fine? Clearly that is not a solution. However, there are things that we can do within our family constructs that can at least begin conversion into the realm of a more peaceful existence. ● Set peace of mind as your highest goal, and organize your life around it. ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● Take 5-10 minutes for a prayer in the morning and at the end of every day. Read scripture. Attend Sunday Mass. Turn off the television especially during meal times. Choose entertainment that brings joy, light and peace into your lives. Eat family meals together often. Take family walks focusing on the environment around you. Keep an “attitude of gratitude” journal – individually and a family one as well. Call someone you have denied forgiveness and forgive them. Engage in art therapy - a good website for ideas is: http://www.arttherapyblog.com/ Dance! Choose an upbeat, positive song (“Happy” is a good one) and focus on the music and movement. Get into your body and out of your head! Declutter your home creating a peaceful space. Muster compassion for someone who hurt you, rather than wallowing in bitterness. Focus on what you appreciate about the people in your life instead of wishing they would change (assuming you’re in healthy relationships). Create a list of things you love about yourself instead of dwelling on how you wish you were different. Be honest in all relationships – remember to be kind and not critical. Volunteer in the parish – putting energy into helping others inadvertently will bring you joy. PEACE AND JOY IN THE FAMILY Now therefore, let it please You to bless the house of Your servant, that it may continue forever before You; for You, O Lord GOD, have spoken it, and with Your blessing let the house of Your servant be blessed forever. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds". Even now, we pray with one accord that You may pour Your divine peace in our family. Lord, we believe that You dwell in the high and holy place, with them who have a contrite and humble spirit. You have assured us that if two of us agree on earth concerning anything that we ask, it will be done. So we come to Your presence with all humility and with oneness of mind that You may dwell with us and be the Head of this family. Riches and honor, enduring riches and righteousness are with You, Lord. Bless us with all abundance and joy. Be with us and guide us in all that we do. May Your name be glorified in our family, now and forever.” Amen. Adapted from 2: Samuel 29 Catholicism Series The schedule for the upcoming videos: (shown at 7:00pm in the church building.
