CIRCUIT BREAKER
The Circuit Breaker is a tax credit program designed for
Massachusetts seniors age 65 and older. It is a property tax credit
designated by the Legislature with the hope of alleviating some of the
burdens that the property tax can create.
What is the Circuit Breaker? For tax year 2014, the credit is worth
as much as $1,050 for eligible taxpayers 65 and older who either own
or rent their home. A taxpayer qualifies when his/her property
payments exceed 10% of his/her annual income.
Who is eligible? Massachusetts residents who:
 Are age 65 or older before January 2015 (for joint filers, it is
sufficient if one taxpayer is 65 years of age or older).
 Own or rent residential property in Massachusetts and occupy the
property as a primary residence.
 Have an annual income of $56,000 or less for a single flier;
$70,000 or less for a head of household; or $84,000
or less for joint filers.
Who is not eligible?
 Married persons who do not file jointly for this credit.
 Those who are a dependent of another tax filer.
 Those who receive federal or state rent subsidy directly; or those
who live in a property-tax exempt facility.
 Those whose property is assessed at a value of
$691,000 or more.
Check with your tax preparer with
any additional questions you may have.

PEABODY COUNCIL ON AGING
CATHERINE KAY MORROCCO SECRETARY OF
FRIENDS AND TRIAD REPORTS: FEBRUARY 2014
When I was a child I remember my grandmother saying, “When
February begins we can start looking forward to Spring.” I thought,
yeah, but we will still have snow storms and freezing weather.
When I grew up I remember my mother saying, “ If you can’t
change a situation accept it and find the good in it” and I thought,
wow, that’s what my grandmother did, she was happy that it was
February because Spring time was coming soon.
Now that I’m older I look at the month of February Calendar and
notice all the events to be enjoyed.
1. Groundhog Day, we will all wait for a prediction on the weather,
will it be good or will it be bad?
2. Birthday of Abe Lincoln, the twelfth President.
3. Every age enjoys Valentine’s Day.
4. Birthday of George Washington, the First President.
5. Ash Wednesday, the start of 40 days of the Lenten Season for
Christians to start preparing for their Easter Sunday.
Lo and Behold, I just noticed, in 2015 Calendar February has
something else to make it a special month. It has four full weeks
starting on a Sunday.
Doing some research, the last time this occurred was in 2009.
How about that! Enjoy the month.

Because of the Holidays and Weather conditions the Triad
Committee has not been able to meet.
I am pleased to report the Triad Committee will have a meeting in
the Senior Center on Wednesday February 25, 2015 at 1:30 P.M. in
the Conference Room. The Topic for Planning and Discussion will
be ‘Mayor Bettencourt’s third (3rd) Senior Day held in September at
Brooksby Farm.’

For the “Young at Heart” Seniors,
A Valentine Poem to enjoy. Author : Hope C. Oberhelman
“Love”
Love is deeper than the ocean. Love is wider than the sea.
Love is full of true emotions. Love is made for you and me.
Love is deeper than the ocean. Love is fresher than the Spring.
Love is constant and enduring and it makes a glad heart sing.
Love is deeper than the ocean. Love is pure and kind and grand.
Love is part of God’s dominion and He holds it in His Hand.
Love is deeper than the ocean. Love is full of hope and care.
Love is filled with great devotion. Love is like an evening prayer!
