He was born June 16, 1926, a son of the late James E. “Jim” and Uva Ashby Leach. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sons, Kenny, Jerry and Larry Leach; a grandson, Joey Roth; and two sisters, Louise Duckworth and Sue Huruska. Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane Talbott Leach; a son; three daughters; ten grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was 88. My mom, the late Beulah Moseley Hillard, was distantly related to him. We would enjoy seeing him and his sister, Louise, at the Central Park School Alumni Banquet. The past two or three years they hadn’t been attending though. And, now Louise is passed away also. We enjoyed talking to him and he seemed to have a good sense of humor. Sympathy to the family of Billie Lee Williams Richardson. We know many in this wonderful and very special family. She was a very special Christian lady. She was 81. Sympathy to the family of Leonard Earl Smith. We know some in this special family. He was 86. Congratulations and best wishes to my cousin and husband, Lynn and Sue Hunter, who will be celebrating their 50th (golden) wedding anniversary on Jan. 29! I was young when they got married, so to me, Phone 274-4905 Lynn has always been in the family. Sue and Lynn and their family are very special to us. Lynn is just another cousin, like Sue. I know that my sister, Peggy, has lived away for so long, that she hadn’t had the opportunity to be around Lynn a whole lot. So more recently, she has had a chance to be around him, and to talk to him some. And she said, “you know, Lynn is a very nice person.” So Best Wishes to Sue and Lynn! I need to say something about the proposed new gym floor for OCHS, which is supposed to be put down this summer. I know that during the basketball games Friday night a replica of the floor was revealed and it was also made known that the new gym floor was “in honor” of Coach Charles “Rusty” Albin. We can think of no one more deserving. He was my P.E. teacher at Central Park School in McHenry, when he was first starting out. He taught David also. Then, when we were at OCHS, there he was! And then when Sam started at OCHS, he was still there! Sam was certainly grateful that he was! Sam and he developed a very special relationship. He is one of Sam’s favorite people! So, we are all thrilled about this! We love Coach A. and his family, and we wish him the best. I received a call from Paul Holland (of Milan, Tennessee). It was good to talk to Paul. He is from McHenry. His grandparents lived in the house David and I live in, the late Robert B. “Burch” and Nola Holland. Paul lived here and grew up in this house with them. I hadn’t heard from him in a long time. It was good to hear from him. I would like to welcome my cousin, David Hillard, and his wife Shirley to McHenry. Really, it would be welcoming David back to McHenry. He is from here and grew up here. They have moved here from Louisville. They have moved in with my cousin, Tom Hillard, in the house where my uncle and aunt, (their parents), the late Harvey and Lucille Goodall Hillard had lived. So, it’s good to have David and Shirley in McHenry. As usual, there are sick folks to be remembered in prayer. Linda House and her family need our prayers very much. Brice Morphew and his family need our prayers very much. I failed to mention this last week: Katie Everley Harder recently had her tonsils removed. She has had a pretty rough time with this. Do keep Katie in your prayers. Remember my cousin, Phyllis Johnson in prayer. This is for my Moseley family readers: I talked to my mom, the late Beulah Moseley Hillard’s cousin, Dorothy Hibbs Travis (of Madisonville). She was telling me about the daughter of her sister, the late Mabel Hibbs Duncan, and her husband Robert. Her name is Jo Anna Duncan Wells. She lives in Brighton, Tennessee. She has cancer and has recently had surgery and should be starting chemo treatments soon. So, remember Jo Anna in prayer. Continue to remember: my brother, Jackie Hillard, and family; my cousin, Judy Aldridge; Stella Chinn; Bill Bryant and his family; Peggy Payton; Jacob Scott; Peggy Letizia; Bob James and wife Mary (of Louisville); Carolyn Cooper; Sue Brown. Remember these and other sick that you know in prayer. Feb. 3 is National Carrot Cake Day. (I like a good carrot cake!) Feb. 4 is Homemade Soup Day. Feb. 4 is also National Stuffed Mushrooms Day. (I like mushrooms.) Of course, this Monday, Feb. 2, is Groudhog Day. I have heard that it is going to be an early spring, but this will tell the tale! This week, I would like to thank a dear lady, Anna Rhea Casey, for reading the column. It was good to see her and her daughters just before Christmas. She said that she certainly was missing the column during the time that I was taking my break during the holidays. I appreciated that!
