JANE FRANCES de CHANTAL CHURCH EASTON, PENNSYLVANIA FEBRUARY 1, 2015 My Dear Parishioners, In today’s second reading (1 Cor. 7, 32-35) St. Paul tells us, “I should like you to be free of anxieties.” Unfortunately, worries and anxieties are a part of life, and it seems that we are seldom free of them. Anxiety takes many forms. It can be a parent worried about the safety of his or her children. It can be a visit to the doctor’s office to investigate a suspicious lump. It can be the worry we experience over an aging parent. Whatever the case, this kind of unease or apprehension is part and parcel of life. But sometimes anxiety can be more than simple worry or uneasiness. Sometimes it can take control of our lives. It can paralyze us. Or it can seriously influence our thoughts or impair our judgment. It is important for us to remind ourselves that Christ Jesus calls us away from this debilitating force that sometimes grips our lives. On one occasion Jesus said, “Fear is useless; what is needed is trust.” (Mark 5, 36) True faith in Jesus and trusting in his promises to us helps us to overcome the power of fear and anxiety in our lives. We hear about Jesus casting out a demon, an “unclean spirit” in today’s Gospel passage. In a sense, anxiety or excessive worry can become a demon in our lives that begins to destroy us spiritually. At those times, we know that we can turn to Our Lord, whose power is far greater than any debilitating spirit. We can trust in him to cast out fear and doubt and worry, to help us to live in the confidence of the Holy Spirit. There are many trials that each of us must face in life. We know that we do not face these difficulties alone. Jesus has promised to be with us and always to give his strength and grace, if only we reach out to him in faith! Sincerely yours, Monsignor Radocha The Rosary is prayed 7:45 a.m. Monday through Friday and on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. The Chaplet of St. Michael is recited daily, Monday through Friday following the 8:15 a.m. Mass.
