CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR SCIENTIFIC ABSTRACTS
We are pleased to invite you to the 5th Annual East African Health and Scientific Conference &
International Health Exhibition and Trade Fair, to be held at the Commonwealth Speke Resort Hotel
& Conference Centre, Munyonyo, Kampala, Uganda, from Wednesday, 25th to Friday, 27th March
2015. The aim of the Conference is to facilitate dissemination of recent scientific findings, inform policy
makers and programmers, and provide a platform for wide ranging multi-disciplinary discussions. The
Conference will also host an International Health Exhibition and Trade Fair.
Conference Theme
The theme for the 5th Annual East African Health and Scientific Conference & International Health
Exhibition and Trade Fair is ‘Investing in Health through strengthening regional health systems, and
institutions towards the prevention and control of communicable and non-communicable diseases.”
In order to facilitate focused issue-specific analysis and consensus building, the Conference has scheduled
daily plenary sessions on topical issues given that the EAC partner states are experiencing a transition
period and the health landscape is rapidly changing. The broad conference sub-themes, which will form
part of the plenary sessions include: a) Health Systems Strengthening
b) Integrated Approaches for Disease Prevention, Control and Management
c) Social Determinants of Health
d) Diseases and Conditions of Public Health Importance
Conference Symposia
1) Strengthening the role of communities and community health workers (CHWs) in promoting the
prevention and control of communicable and non-communicable diseases.
2) Strengthening the prevention and control of Road Traffic Accidents (RTAs) and the provision of
health services for persons with disabilities.
3) Strengthening the prevention and control of mental health and substance abuse.
4) Aflatoxin Prevention and Control in East Africa: Public Health and Social Economic Impact and
Mitigation Interventions.
5) Second East African Epidemiological Symposium: Promoting Integrated “One Health” Approaches on
Human, Animal and Ecosystems Interventions
6) Accelerating Integrated Health and HIV/AIDS, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), Tuberculosis
and other opportunistic infections responses.
7) Accelerating and sustaining progress in women and children’s health post 2015.
8) Strengthening Information Communication Technology (ICT) Infrastructure to promote eHealth and
Tele-medicine

9) Mobilizing domestic resources for health

Call for Abstracts
The Uganda National Steering Committee for the 5th Annual East African Health and Scientific
Conference & International Health Exhibition and Trade Fair invites submission of original work for either
Oral or Poster presentations under the various Conference Sub-Themes. Guidelines for preparation and
submission of Abstracts and online payments can be found at: www.health.go.ug/eachsc and

International Health Exhibition and Trade Fair
Regional and International Medical Exhibitors are encouraged to apply for the limited space available.
Medical Schools from the region and teaching hospitals are also invited to show case their products and
