Gary Closes Tuesday
Martin Luther King Drive between 21st
Avenue and 35th Avenue will close for
approximately six months beginning
Tuesday, Feb. 3, weather permitting.
Contractors will be replacing a storm sewer
pipe in the area.
Local traffic between 21st Avenue and
35th Avenue will be detoured over
Georgia Street, Ellis Avenue and Virgina
Street.
Don't forget, Open Enrollment for Affordable
Health Care takes place on Fridays at City Hall.

health insurance enrollment period. Enrollment days are every Wednesday
from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm from now until February 11, 2015.

(PAMI) is an annual public education and

Assistance (VITA) Program

will be able to take advantage of the
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)
Program. Sponsored by the IU Northwest
School of Business and Economics,

program provides free electronic tax filing

Indiana Wins Approval of
Plan to Cover 350,000
Uninsured
Governor Pence Praised Healthy Indiana
Plan as "Proven Model for Medicaid
Reform"
INDIANAPOLIS - Governor Mike Pence
announced today that the State has
received approval from the federal
government to use an updated version of
the consumer-driven Healthy Indiana Plan
known as HIP 2.0 instead of Medicaid to
offer access to quality health care to
350,000 uninsured Hoosiers. The Family
and Social Services Administration
(FSSA) will begin taking applications
immediately, and coverage will begin
February 1.

GPTC Schedule Updates
The following are flyers with the new
timetable for the Lakeshore Connection
(Route 12) which connects downtown
Gary, Hammond and E. Chicago. Starting
Monday the route will be operating hourly
for most of the day, making connectivity
and commuting easier between cities,
transit systems, schools, etc.

Free Shredding for Citizens of
Gary
The Recycling department has collected
over 6,000 tier's in 2014. We have free tire
collections program at 900 Madison St.
Monday thru Friday. Citizens can drop off
4 tires between the hours of 8am to 2pm.
What does that mean to our City?
The Recycling department has kept those
tires from being dumped on the side of
the roads which will help preserve our
environment and also keep illegal
dumping under control when it comes to
tires.
Starting February 16, 2015, the recycling
department will provide free shredding for
the Citizens of Gary at 900 Madison St.,
three days out of the week.

Attention Gary Business
Owners!
Please be reminded of the recently
enacted City Ordinance Chapter163
Section 123-193(c)(4)(k) & (l). After a study
of criminal activity within the city limits,
the City of Gary and the Gary Common
Council passed this ordinance to deter,
prevent, and help solve crimes that
frequently occur near businesses that
operate at night. This ordinance requires
all businesses that operate between the
hours of 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM to:
1. Install and maintain at least three
working high-resolution surveillance
security cameras which can reproduce
digital color images from a digital high
definition video recorder with night vision
capabilities, and;
2. Maintain date and time-stamped video
footage from the surveillance system for a
minimum of thirty (30) days and ensure
that the recorded footage can be made
available to the Gary Police Department
or other law enforcement agencies in a
viewable format, and;
3. Post a conspicuous sign stating that the
property is under camera surveillance,
and;
4. Provide lighting for parking areas
during all hours of darkness when
employees or customers are on the
premises. It is your duty to abide by these
regulations. Failure to comply with this
ordinance may result in fines up to $2,500
and a revocation of your business license.
A grace period for compliance has already
passed. Enforcement shall begin
immediately. Your cooperation is greatly
appreciated.

Free Music Downloads &
Streaming at the Gary Public
Library
The Gary Public Library (220 W. 5th Ave.)
is now offering free music streaming and
more digital music downloads to its
patrons. This service is available with
Freegal Music through the library’s website
at www.garypubliclibrary.org. It is free to
patrons with a Gary Public Library card
and a pin number. With streaming, 3
hours allotted per day, you can listen to
an entire album or create your own
playlists. Also new is the weekly song
download limit that has been increased to
5 per week.

residents only. Flu shots will be given
