ZONTA NEWS February 2015 _______________________________________________________________________________ ________ Creativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules and having fun ~ Mary Lou Cook February Meeting Saturday, February 7, 2015 Hello Sister Zontians: This month we will focus our efforts on creativity, candy-making and fundraising! Our monthly membership meeting will take place on Saturday February 7, 2015 from 10 am - 12 noon at Happiness House. There will be no agenda or committee reports! Rather, we will come together as a group to enjoy each other’s company as we work and appreciate our “creative” efforts in assembling our Valentine Candy Boxes. According to the Imagination Foundation, creativity is one of the most critical skills for the future. Our world is changing at a fantastic speed and the future requires people who can problem-solve, adapt and communicate in workplaces and environments that are increasingly complex. Creativity creates jobs, drives economic growth and provides answers to societal needs. And it also maximizes human potential. For our club to grow and work toward the mission and vision of Zonta International, we must encourage and stimulate our creative minds, find new ways to advocate for, provide service to and empower all women. As we work on our fundraising project this month, let’s generate some new ideas in how we might be of service locally and globally, what other avenues might we try to advocate for women and what new ideas might we consider in order to raise funds for our current and future projects. We all have talents and skills we bring to our club. Over the last 4 years I have seen wonderful examples of these talents, individually and collectively. Among us we have musicians, artists, quilters, word smiths, singers, chefs, event planners, and logistical experts to name a few. What ideas do you have to bring all of our talents together to generate new ideas and events? Creativity is not a gift – it is a human birthright, but like muscles that atrophy with disuse, creativity must be exercised to be effective. Assembly of Valentine’s Day candy boxes Location: Happiness House 731 Pre Emption Road, Geneva Time: 10:00 am - Noon Proceeds from the candy sale support our scholarship fund. I challenge all of us to reflect on the skills and talents you have, write down your ideas on how these can be brought to our club efforts, and share your ideas with our committees and at meetings. Ideas are good, creative thoughts are valued and requirements for the survival and growth of our club! I will plan some time during our April membership meeting for brainstorming and discussing new ideas for events and fundraising. In the meantime, have fun and allow your creative juices to flow making candy and decorating boxes for our Valentine Fundraiser.
