Jan/Feb 2015
From the Principal
Parents,
I shared with our teachers the other day in a meeting that this time of year is always somewhat of a
paradox. While we are really only half way through our current school year, with scheduling beginning soon
for next school year, thoughts naturally drift in that direction.
I want to direct your attention to the information in this newsletter related to scheduling for next year. I
sent a Skylert message Tuesday evening to households with students in grades 9, 10, and 11 which discussed
scheduling and directed your attention to our website. Please make sure to visit the “Course Guide” under the
“Guidance” tab to find all of the relevant documents needed for your child’s scheduling. Or you can go
directly to the site by clicking on this link: http://www.hse.k12.in.us/HHS/academics/courses.aspx
I would also like to draw your attention to some important changes in our publications courses. The
publications classes in our school produce our yearbook, newspaper, and TV studio productions. We have
already seen major changes to our newspaper, The Orb, which has taken on more or a “newsmagazine” feel.
HSETV is becoming a true newscast, in which the students will now develop the content, mostly by means of
journalistic-reporting news segments. The content of the newscast will be much more engaging, relevant, and
informative to students and staff. These types of productions will take place on Wednesdays and Fridays for
the rest of the year. I encourage you to visit this link http://www.hsenews.com/ to find more information
about HSE News and see past productions of our newspaper and HSETV.
Proud to serve as your principal,
Matt Kegley

General School News
Look What You’ve Done!
The Hamilton Southeastern Schools Foundation (HSSF) raised over $17,000 in
the first #GivingTuesday campaign to benefit HSE Schools. The campaign
also reached targeted “friendraising” goals with hundreds of messages and
compliments shared with teachers, schools, and staff. Attention now turns
to putting those funds to work for maximum student impact. This year, the
Foundation will focus on programs that will support elementary literary, secondary STEM, and district wide
diversity efforts. Follow HSSF on Facebook and Twitter or online at www.hsefoundation.org to see your
investment in action!

Spend a Night Getting Crafty with Fishers Parks & Recreation
Pinterest offers so many awesome craft ideas, but there never seems to be enough time to actually start crafting
some of their do-it-yourself projects. Instead of continuing to pin things that go unnoticed for months, make
plans to hang out at Roy G. Holland Memorial Park to start and finish your very own string heart. On Friday,
Jan. 23 from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m., participants ages 10 and up will weave together a piece of art using string and
nails. Don’t believe it’s possible? Register now and see how this piece of art is brought to life! Participants will
be able to create a heart, the outline of our state and much more. All supplies will be provided during the
event which costs $15 for residents and $23 for nonresidents. If participants are uncomfortable using a hammer
and nails, parents are encouraged to attend to help.
January is National Hobby Month and the perfect time to try something new! Check out the Fishers Parks &
Recreation Fun Guide to keep any eye out for similar programs that everyone in the family will enjoy.
Pinterest Craft Night is a brand new program that offers the perfect opportunity to get out of the house with a
few friends and create a beautiful piece of art!
Space is limited, register online to secure a spot, today!

those families who don’t mind bundling up and facing the cool air, there are also outdoor opportunities for

in the creek and an Eeyore House Building challenge. The shelter will also house an artifact table and costumes
for fun photo opportunities!
Fishers Parks & Recreation strives to host events that lace nature education with fun. Winnie the Pooh Day
offers families the opportunity to learn about the animals that inspired the classic Winnie the Pooh characters.
