Go Red for Heart Month The Villa Vision By Tori Couch Greystone is committed to healthy, worthy and impactful causes. We are proud to support the American Heart Association's Go Red For Women initiative and National Heart Month. This February, Greystone kicks of the Go Red Survivor Gallery, a traveling gallery of heart issue survivors featuring Greystone's own associates. Traveling through the Tampa Bay and St. Petersburg area, the gallery showcases women who have dealt with heart attacks, arrhythmia (dangerously rapid heart rate), and battled through heart conditions from birth. Many women may be unaware of potential heart attack signs which differ greatly from men. Often misdiagnosed, women's symptoms include: Chest discomfort or upper body pain in the back, shoulders, arms, stomach, jaw, neck or throat Lightheadedness or dizziness Nausea or vomiting Inability to sleep or unusual fatigue Shortness of breath or trouble breathing Find Greystone on the Web! February, 2015 As the 2015 Go Red Tampa Bay Chair, Connie Bessler, CEO of Greystone Healthcare Management, is raising awareness and support for women's heart health. "Through education we can highlight the different ways heart concerns can manifest themselves and encourage better care and safety. A number one killer of women, we must be constantly vigilant against such a serious – and often overlooked – health concern." Support Heart Health month by: Wearing red on Go Red Day, February 6th. We have begun a major renovation of the building which we had been looking forward to.. By the time you read this we will have replaced the old tile in the resident rooms and corridors on the West side of the building with wood grain flooring. Also to be included will be new furniture in the rooms as well as the common space. We have painted and put in new flooring in the former Blue Dining Room and added pictures as well. In addition to the cosmetic changes we have expanded our Therapy gym. The former Green Dining Room off the West side day room has been converted to a second gym. Though we already had a very nice sized Therapy gym it was felt that given the amount of therapy we are doing now, the extra space was needed. Our Therapy staff has already been putting it to good use. The work so far has exceeded our expectations and we look forward additional changes to the building in the coming months. Thursday, February 19, 2015 begins the year of the Goat. Last year was the year of the Horse. The Chinese New Year is the longest and most important celebration in the Chinese calendar. In China it is also known as the Spring Festival or the Lunar New Year. The Chinese celebrate from the last day of the last month of the Chinese calendar till the 15th day of the first month of the new year. Two weeks! The 15th day is called the Lantern Festival. Traditions celebrating the new year are widely varied from region to region. One tradition is that Chinese families gather together for the annual reunion dinner. They also go about “cleansing’ the house to welcome good luck. You will often see decorations with red paper-cuts for themes of good fortune, happiness, wealth and longevity. Lighting firecrackers and giving money in red envelopes are other activities. There are twelve zodiac characters to mark the passage of the calendar; the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. Do you know your sign? He is an Army veteran with 6 years service. Steve and his wife Tammy enjoys entertaining by their backyard pool in the summer. It’s not uncommon for a BBQ to break out! Steve also enjoys general woodworking , crossword puzzles and Once again I am taking this space to send out a special “Thank you”. This time to our Santa, Mr. Floyd Williams. Floyd was here for rehabilitation a few years ago and hit it off with many staff members and guests. In the course of conversation he revealed that he used to be a Santa. Now if you saw Floyd out of costume you would realize that its really not a stretch. He has the white beard , a deep voice and when he laughs his belly shook like a bowl full of jelly ! This year however, he started going to the gym. The bowl full of jelly is no more, he did marvelous without it! I never get tired of watching these wonderful guests light up and laugh about getting a visit from Santa. It sparks something long forgotten in them. When they start talking about their childhood or about their children and how special they feel in this one precious moment it makes all the preparations worth it! So it is with a very full heart I send a big THANK YOU to Santa for all you do for us! spending time with the grandkids. Steve also enjoys being able to help the guest with whatever he can. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK ! Rochelle J. 02/28 2 7 Games Changes! Priscilla Holstein Solutions: So much going on! You may have noticed a lot of things happening at once. Floors being ripped out and replaced with wood, painting going on and then there is the furniture! New beds , bedside tables, chairs even new bedspreads! Even the dining rooms are getting a much needed facelift! The green is now a gym, the blue is now the green and west wing restorative room is going to be an office. It’s hard to keep up with all the changes some days. This has been needed for awhile now and it is finally happening! All of this happening so quickly can be a challenge. The noise, smells and extra people around can make for some interesting times. Patients is needed and appreciated by all. It’s going to be amazing in the end. There is going to be a Bistros! (Yes, it’s spelled right I looked it up.) You may ask what a Bistros is? (I looked that up too.) It’s a small restaurant that are defined mostly by the foods they serve. French home-style cooking and slow cooked foods like soups. Makes me hungry thinking about it. We don’t know everything that is going to happen but that’s what the future is for .. making us wonder. We shouldn’t worry about it because the future always has a way of taking care of itself. But all the new things that are going on around us sure is exciting and never boring! Every day something that you see or a place you go to is changing. We can only hope that the results turn out as planned. A new gym, a new dining room, new friends, and a new outlook can be a great adventure! So keep those eyes and ears focused to see what happens next! Surprise Visit Chickens & Goats Priscilla Holstein January 8, 2015 Bobbi Loder’s granddaughter, Ruth Winters and her groom Mike Mann, decided to surprise Ms. Bobbi in their wedding attire. They got married on Nov.29, 2014 but Ms. Bobbi couldn’t attend and Ruth really wanted her grandma to see her dress. She especially wanted Ms. Bobbi to see the handkerchief that was sewn in the dress. You see the handkerchief belonged to Bobbi’s late husband Wally who passed away in the spring. Bobbi also noted that Ruth was sporting a pair of cowboy boots under that dress! The couple were married in a backyard ceremony in Winter Springs. They reside in Sanford. Also here for the visit was Bobbi’s two daughters Shirley and Sharon. Bobbi’s advice to the couple for a long marriage was told in secret but her last question to the couple was in true grandmother fashion, she asked, “When are you going to have a baby?” Which was followed by a lot of chuckling and red faces! ____________________ Tuesday & Thursday Nail Spa Friday Movie Night Everyday Bingo 4 It always surprises me how excited everyone gets over pet visits! The baby goat, who goes by “Whitey” for short, was a big hit. Some staff and guests thought it was a lamb or dog. The rooster , whose name I can’t remember , did not make a peep. Did you know they purr? It sounds different than a cat’s purr but that is what it is. When Whitey bleated it startled everyone! A big noise for such a little guy! They visited everyone no matter where they were. We hope they come again soon! 5
