Masses at 7AM, 9AM & 12Noon
Services at 3PM, 4PM, 5PM
Ecumenical Service with St. Paul’s at 7:30PM
I have been over whelmed by the outpouring of love and
concern I have received from all over our Diocese,
including your parish. I have received over 10,000
cards, letters, emails, video messages, gifts, and
countless prayers, including my hospitalization and
ongoing recovery. I could not begin to respond to each
one personally, as much as I wish I could. Your pastor
has allowed me to offer my heartfelt thanks in your
parish bulletin. I am most grateful to your for your loving
concern. The future looks good and I hope to be back in
public by Palm Sunday. My thankful prayers are with
you. God bless you.

St. Vincent de Paul
Every year we co-ordinate a clothing drive during the
month of October. Last year we combined our efforts with
the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Ocean and Monmouth
Counties. The items collected were sold in local thrift
stores and the money used to purchase the items went back
to the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Organization. We do plan
to continue this fund raiser in the fall. Anything collected
at that time benefits the St. Vincent de Paul Society
because we are paid by the pound. If in the meantime, you
have clothing that you would like to donate to this
worthwhile cause, and you are unable to store the items
until October, we do now have two beautifully bright green
clothing bins on the property of the Parish Hall that may be
utilized. Please continue to pray for us and also please
consider joining our society. God bless you.
bethany bereavement
Come and join us on Thursday, February 19 at 7:00pm
in the APR. This month we will discuss “Stay with
me”. The discussion will be lead by Fr. Jim Redstone.
Be with us as we journey through our losses and work
towards acceptance, especially when it comes to
significant dates without the physical presence of our
loved ones. All are welcome as we continue to gather
the third Thursday of each month.

Church Regulations
Regarding Fast and Abstinence
Abstinence from meat (beast or fowl) is to be
observed by all Catholics fourteen years old and
older on Ash Wednesday and on all the Fridays of
Lent. This obligation prohibits the eating of meat,
but not eggs, milk products, or condiments of any
kind, even though made from animal fat.
Fasting means limiting oneself to one full meal on
a given fast day. Catholics who are eighteen
years of age but not yet fifty-nine are obliged to
fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. On fast
days, two additional smaller meals are permitted
if necessary to maintain strength. However, the
two smaller meals together may not equal one full
meal. Moreover, eating solid foods between meals
on fast days is not permitted.

Unfortunately, we can fall into the trap of
not listening with attention. We might find it
hard to overcome an accent, or distracted
by those around us. A simple lesson can help
us.
Gospel: Mark 1:29-39
Jesus cured Simon and Andrew‛s mother of
a fever, then others with illnesses or
demons came to see him. He cured those
who were ill, and cast out the demons of the
others. Then he went off and prayed alone
until his followers sought him out. Jesus and
his disciples then moved on to other villages
to proclaim the good news.
“Rising very early before dawn he left and
went off to a deserted place, where he
prayed. Simon and those who were with him
pursued him and on finding him said,
‘Everyone is looking for you.‛ He told them,
‘Let us go to the nearby villages that I may
preach there also. For this purpose have I
come…” “If I preach the gospel, this is no
reason for me to boast, for an obligation has
been imposed on me, and woe to me if I do
not preach it.”
We join Jesus in Capernaum and Paul with
the Corinthians and discover the importance
of the oral teaching, preaching the word of
God. We are accustomed to read, whether
the sacred scriptures or inspirational books,
but we are provided with the spoken word in
Sunday homilies, television teaching and
radio lectures. All are meant to inform, form
and transform us.
Like the young Samuel ask the Lord to speak
because I am trying to listen. Surely there
is one word, one phrase or sentence which
can provide a great treasure for meditation,
rather than turn the dial to off, or the
remote to mute.
Simon said ‘everyone is looking for you‛ and
we are among those who need to find, listen
and reflect upon the gift the Lord offers us
through His many instruments. I provide
what every preacher needs: a good listener.
Attention Men!

Trenton at the 18th Annual Catholic Men for Jesus

Disciple.” The day runs form 9:00am to 3:00pm
(doors open at 8:00am for bagels and coffee) and will
feature Holy Mass and inspiring talks by Jose
Romero, Catholic author, radio host and evangelist;
Mike Piazza, former Major League Baseball All-Star

the opportunity to interact with other men who are

In this memoir, set as deeply in his mind as in the
Southeast Asian jungle, a young American soldier embarks
on a journey to a war that, for him, will never be over.
The world was a playground for Mickey,
a naive Irish American kid bored with
his life. His father served in World War
II, his brother was a Marine in Vietnam;
now it was his turn. His 365 days in
Vietnam builds in torment until an
attack on a bunker complex in Cambodia.
Wounded, his friend captured, he
becomes a tormented survivor knowing
he is always just a heartbeat from death.
