FOCUS: Through the Church, Jesus’ healing power is really present to the world.
Although it is difficult to understand the mystery of human sickness and suffering, the Christian faith,
through the cross of Christ, brings healing to sickness and meaning to suffering.
LITURGY OF THE WORD: In today’s first reading, Job laments his difficult life. In the second reading, Saint Paul tells us that he is simply doing what he must, for it can be no other way for a disciple of
Christ. In the Gospel, Jesus shows us both simple and profound acts of compassion as he continues his
healing and preaching ministry throughout Galilee.
REFLECTION: Job is a figure for the innocent sufferer. When evil people suffer we can reason they
are getting their just desserts; but when a good person suffers we struggle to come up with a reason for
their pain. Job can find no rationale for what has happened to him. He is a figure for the good and innocent sufferer. He is overwhelmed by his loss, physical pain and mental anguish – but he doesn’t give up
on God.
So we ask ourselves:
i What resources have we discovered to help us during times of trial and suffering?
i How have we been able to help others as they go through periods of grief and pain?

The 2015 Catholic Charities Appeal is now underway and will continue through year-end. The
theme for this year’s campaign is ‘Giving Hope2015.” Among the many beneficiaries of the Appeal are the elderly, the young, and various
schools of special education operated by the
Archdiocese.
Each parish family recently received a letter from
Archbishop Chaput regarding the Appeal. We
ask that you give prayerful consideration to the
Archbishop’s message and make a gift or pledge
commensurate with your individual ability to contribute. You may return the pledge card that was
included with the Archbishop’s letter, together
with your gift directly to the Archdiocese or deposit it in the collection basket or deliver it to the
rectory at any time.
Please make all checks payable to ‘Catholic
Charities Appeal.’
The 2014 Appeal netted
$56,711 from 992 of our parishioners. Our parish
goal for 2015 is $65,000.

SPRING BIBLE STUDY
Synod of Bishops 2015
Pope Francis has called for an Ordinary Synod of
Bishops in October 2015 on the theme, The Vocation and Mission of the Family in the Church and
Contemporary World. The clergy and faithful are
invited to participate in this consultation.
A Preparatory Document has been issued by the
Holy See to initiate this consultation along with a
series of questions. Archbishop Chaput, in an effort
to provide an opportunity for the clergy and faithful
of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia to engage in this
consultation in as wide a manner as possible has
authorized the use of this instrument for local participation.
This is not a poll or survey on Church teaching. Rather, it represents a unique opportunity for us to reflect and respond thoughtfully on serious challenges
to family life and to marriage. The clergy and faithful
are asked to read the complete Preparatory Document, or its summary, on the archdiocesan website
and then answer any or all of the questions that follow by visiting www.archphila.org. Hard copies will
be made available next week at the back of Church.
Responses are to be submitted by Monday, March 9
and they will be integrated into a general report by
the Archbishop.
Mary: A Biblical Walk with the Blessed Mother

through her joys...and her sorrows. You will learn how
she works in our lives today, drawing us ever-close to
her Divine Son. Seeing Mary in this way will change
you forever. Mary will become a part of your daily life,
and in your daily life, you will become more like Christ.
