A Prayer for the World Meeting of Families
God and Father of us all, in Jesus, your Son and our Savior,
you have made us your sons and daughters in the family of the
Church.
May your grace and love help our families in every part of the
world be united to one another in fidelity to the Gospel.
May the example of the Holy Family, with the aid of your
Holy Spirit, guide all families, especially those most troubled,
to be homes of communion and prayer and to always seek
your truth and live in your love.
Through Christ our Lord, Amen
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, pray for us!
The 10 months prior to the World Meeting of Families have
been assigned 10 themes based on the 10 chapters of the

February 2015: Two Become One
We are not made to be alone. Human beings need and
complete each other. Friendship and community satisfy that
longing with bonds of common interest and love. Marriage is a
uniquely intimate form of friendship that calls a man and a
woman to love each other in the manner of God’s covenant.
Marriage is a Sacrament. Married love is fruitful and offered
without reservation. This love is in the image of Jesus’s
faithfulness to the Church.
PLEASE REMEMBER…those who are sick in your prayers,
Maryann Bunch, John Lapolla, Krista Hiller, Chase Kane and Nickie
Nicoladse.
For those in need of Healing Prayer there are pray overs the 1st
and 3rd Sunday of each month after the noon Mass on the Blessed
Virgin Mary side of the alter.

Difficulty Hearing in Church? Did you know that you can bring
any transistor radio with a head set to church and tune to channel
107.5 to receive assistance with hearing. Those who have been using
this assistance are most pleased. The radio does not have to be
special. The least expensive ones work just fine.

Dear Sisters and Brother in the Lord,
It is here at last….Lent, the year of Our Lord 2015….and the promise of Spring. This Wednesday is the beginning of this Holy
Season in which we are urged to follow the example of the holy people of past ages. Make it a time of renewal for yourself/family
and get ready for Holy Week. Prayer, Fasting, Works of Charity are the tried and true road to greater union with our good and
loving God through Jesus His Son. Please refer to the Lenten Calendar below. It contains both the Lenten Regulations and
also the schedule of events for the first two weeks. The traditional flyer, with the Holy Week schedule, also will be mailed to
your homes. Please consider daily Holy Mass or joining in its celebration on Wednesday and/or Friday. It is a sacrifice of twenty
minutes a day at 6:30 or thirty minutes if you attend the 8:30. Ample opportunities for the joint making of the Stations of The Cross
are also available in church and chapel. Next to Holy Mass, did you know that this is the most indulgenced prayer of the
Church? Stations may also be made privately at anytime in church/chapel. Remember our lovely Lady’s Chapel is open MondayFridays, 9:00AM – 7:00PM. Our Church is open Saturday and Sunday from before the first celebration of Holy Mass until after the
last. Jesus, in the Most Blessed Sacrament of the Altar, waits on you at your convenience. Let’s not have Him wait in vain. How
very surprised people are with the effects of a visit to the Real Presence when first the invitation is accepted. “Come to Me…and
you’ll find rest for yourselves!”

“Laws of Fast and Abstinence during Lent”. The current laws took effect in 1966. They read simply: “Catholics who have
celebrated their 14th birthday are bound to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and each Friday of Lent. Catholics who have
celebrated their 18th birthday, in addition to abstaining from meat, should fast, i.e., eat only one full meal on Ash Wednesday and
Good Friday. Smaller quantities of food may be taken at two other meals but no food should be consumed at any other time during
those two days. The obligation of fasting ceases with the celebration of one’s 59th birthday.”

busy lives and good intentions are just not enough! We need to

This is a thoughtful and compelling one hour film that
examines the effects of abortion on our nation over the 40+
years since Roe v. Wade. It presents abortion as the most
important human rights issue of our time for people of all
persuasions. It addresses the issue from both sides and
provides heartfelt testimonies from post abortive women and
reports on youth as the generation that will end the abortion
holocaust. Take time to view the film, even if only partially,
to become inspired to pray for an end to abortion during the
40 Days For Life campaign this Lent.

SSPJ School Celebrates Catholic Schools Week!
SSPJ School Celebrates Families!
Tooth Buddy Tales Visits SSPJ
One of the aspects of SS. Philip and James School
that makes it so special is its family atmosphere. Our
families were celebrated in a special way during the
closing Mass of Catholic Schools Week. Each family
prepared a circle, which became part of a collage as
an antependium for the altar for that Mass. On each
circle the families indicated the ways their family
contributes to, receives from, or is part of our parish
family. Below are Maya (left) and Ava (right) whose
family circles are among those in the collage. After
Mass, parents and volunteers gathered in the cafeteria
for an appreciation breakfast. The Home and School
Association generously provided a luncheon for the
faculty and staff while the homeroom mothers
organized a special activity for the students.
Pre-kindergarten through second grade students had a
special assembly from “Tooth Buddy Tales” which
taught the students through a puppet show that they
have the power to battle cavities by having good
dental hygiene and by choosing the right treats. A
special thanks to Exton Pediatric & Adolescent
Dentistry who sponsored the assembly! Below is
Kevin, one of the hosts, with his puppet friends.
Students Send Love to Camilla Hall
During Catholic Schools Week, students went to the
cafeteria to create Valentine and St. Patrick crafts to
adorn the rooms of Camilla Hall, the Convent Home
and Healthcare Center for ill and aged Sisters,
Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. These
activities gave older and younger students the
opportunity to work together. Below are Erin and
Danny working together to create a Valentine craft.

March 21, 2015
Dear Friends,
As we close in on the date for the World Meeting of Families and the Holy Father’s visit, I often hear two questions: “How can I be
involved?” and “How can I help?” Many of our people want to be involved in some way, and of course we need all the help we can
get.
First, I urge all of you, individuals and families, to attend the World Meeting of Families Congress. Registration for both the Adult
and Youth Congress sessions is open on the World Meeting of Families/Philadelphia 2015 website, www.WorldMeeting2015.org.
You’ll find a variety of registration package options, and detailed information about each session.
Second, please give serious consideration to hosting a family and opening your home to pilgrims. This is one of our greatest needs.
There simply aren’t enough hotel rooms in our region for the many people who will come to Philadelphia later this year. We’ve
partnered with Homestay, an international organization with a strong reputation and high level of expertise, to help us with this
initiative. They’ve designed an online portal specifically for the World Meeting of Families, where host families can register a room,
multiple rooms or a whole apartment or home, to be used by visitors. The website will then be opened to visitors who can search for
available rooms and request to stay there for a period of time during the World Meeting of Families. You can learn more by visiting
the “Host a Family” page of www.WorldMeeting2015.org.
Third, become a World Meeting of Families/Philadelphia 2015 volunteer. We need more than 8,000 volunteers for a wide range of
tasks. Our volunteers will be the face of the Archdiocese to people from around the globe this fall, so this job is vital to our efforts.
Volunteer registration will soon open on the World Meeting of Families website, www.WorldMeeting2015.org. Every volunteer
must be at least 18 years of age, a U.S. citizen, and must complete an online background check. On the website you can read more
about the different volunteer jobs available and soon begin the registration process.
Fourth, the historic events that will take place this year in Philadelphia demand not only a great deal of work, but also the money
resources to match. Fundraising falls largely on the shoulders of the host diocese.
As I’ve said before, we will not use Archdiocesan or parish funds to pay for expenses. Thanks to business, religious congregation
and individual donors across the country, we’ve made good progress in meeting our resource needs. We’re more than half way to
our goals. But with a massive effort like World Meeting of Families, we need all the financial help we can get. Every financial
contribution, no matter how large or modest, is greatly appreciated. I ask you to please consider helping us reach the goal. Again,
every gift matters, and you can learn more about ways to donate by visiting www.WorldMeeting2015.org.
Fifth and finally, please pray for the success of the World Meeting of Families and the visit of our extraordinary Pope Francis. This
can be a moment of renewal -- the beginning of new energy and life -- for the whole Church in Greater Philadelphia. Please help
God make that renewal happen through your active participation, your generosity and your prayers. I’m grateful for all of your
support, and I promise to remember you and your own families in my prayers.
Sincerely yours in Jesus Christ,
