Get the Word Out! New Sunday 5pm Mass! Beginning next Sunday, February 22nd, we will be offering an additional Sunday Mass at 5pm. It is part of our effort to try to make the great gift of the Mass as accessible as possible to all. There’s no denying that people’s schedules have changed in recent years and Sunday morning is no longer honored to the degree it once was by secular schedules. It can be a real challenge for parents to juggle their children’s participation in park district and travel team sports, for example, and coming to Mass Sunday morning. A later Sunday Mass is also often a more preferred time for high school, college aged and young adults. Whatever the age or schedule, we hope that the additional Mass will allow the Lord to gather to Himself more of His children each week. We will offer this new Mass time on a trial basis throughout Lent with the hopes that it might become a weekly fixture. So please get the word out and invite others, particularly the younger generation, to take advantage of it. Thursday Evening Mass at 6:30pm during Lent In additional to our two regularly offered daily morning Masses and our other Lenten opportunities, we will once again offer a weekday evening Mass at 6:30pm on Thursdays this Lent. Why not take 25 quiet minutes out of your busy week to participate in an additional Mass, allowing the Lord to speak His word to your heart and feed you with His sacred Body and Blood? We have situated this Mass especially to allow participation by those who are coming to our Lenten Bible Study, A Biblical Walk Through the Mass. All are welcome, however, and perhaps you would like to participate in both? Relic of Pope Saint John Paul II at OLR Mark your calendars for a very blessed and unique opportunity. A vial of blood drawn from Pope John Paul II on the day he was shot and which was used for his postulation for canonization will be coming to our parish for our veneration on Sunday, March 15th. We are continuing to finalize arrangements, but the evening would include 5pm Mass; some brief catechesis by the custodians of the relic, the Servants of the Pierced Hearts of Jesus and Mary; and an opportunity to join in prayerful veneration of the relic. The saints are our friends in Christ who have fully completed their journey to the Lord for eternity and offer to us their love, encouragement and intercession while we are still on the journey. What a blessing that we have been able to witness a saint who has lived in our midst and shepherded us as Pope. When we honor him as a gift from God, we grow in holiness to become the saints we, too, are called to be. See you Ash Wednesday! If so, then this is for you! Join us this Lenten season as we embark on an exciting 6-week journey through A Biblical Walk Through the Mass. $20 Registration Fee Contact the Ministry Center registration information 847-823-2550 Let us all remember this: one cannot proclaim the Gospel of Jesus without the tangible witness of one's life. Fasting is to be observed on Ash Wednesday by all Catholics who are 18 years of age but not yet 59. Those who are bound by this may take only one full meal. February 15, 2015 Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time Prayer to Our Lady of Lourdes CONGRATULATIONS O ever Immaculate Virgin, Mother of mercy, health of the sick, refuge of sinners, comforter of the afflicted, you know my wants, my troubles, my sufferings; look with mercy on me. By appearing in the Grotto of Lourdes, you were pleased to make it a privileged sanctuary, whence you dispense your favors; and already many sufferers have obtained the cure of their infirmities, both spiritual and corporal. I come, therefore, with complete confidence to implore your maternal intercession. Obtain, O loving Mother, the grant of my requests. Through gratitude for your favors, I will endeavor to imitate your virtues, that I may one day share your glory. Amen.
