CCA News: buildingSMART Canada Issues A Call to Action for
Building Information Modelling in Canada
buildingSMART Canada, a council of the Institute for BIM in Canada (IBC)
and Canadian chapter of buildingSMART International, has released a
Roadmap to Lifecycle BIM in Canada, which describes the transformation
required to achieve the use of lifecycle BIM in the Canadian built
environment. “Internationally, the use of BIM as a delivery process has
shown increased collaboration, and ultimately more efficient processes,
products, and operations in the architecture, engineering, construction and
facility operation sectors,” said Bob Hildenbrandt, chair of the Institute for
BIM in Canada. “This Roadmap is a call to action for the Canadian built
environment to move toward a BIM-based project delivery and building
lifecycle process” Read more

Canada Winter Games a 'Coming Out Party' For
Northern British Columbia
Many young athletes use the Canada Winter Games as a stepping stone
to greater exposure, and this year's host city hopes to do the same.
Prince George, B.C., is set to welcome 2,400 competitors for 17 days
beginning Friday, and Games CEO Stuart Ballantyne says apart from
putting on an event featuring some of the country's premier sporting
talent, the community is also looking forward to telling its story.
"I think it's a real coming out party for Northern British Columbia and
Prince George," Ballantyne said in a recent phone interview. "A lot of
the country doesn't really consider what goes on in
Northern B.C. and this is a great chance to stand up on a soapbox and
tell them."
Athletes will compete in 19 sports, including alpine skiing, hockey,
snowboarding, figure skating, curling, badminton, gymnastics, table
tennis and synchronized swimming. Read More
OPENING CEREMONIES FRIDAY FEBRUARY 13, 2015

The legislation adds enforcement tools for WorkSafeBC that include on the
spot fines of up to $1,000, wider discretion to stop work deemed unsafe and
the ability to take more forceful action against egregious, wilful and repeat
offenders.
The new legislation also expands the court’s authority to bar the worst
offenders from operating in an industry, and shortens time frames in which
companies must conduct investigations into significant workplace incidents.
Based on consultation, the B.C. government decided not to give WorkSafeBC
the ability to penalize workers with on-the-spot fines for failing to wear
protective gear such as hard hats and steel-toed boots.
COCA is actively working with our partners to determine the implications of
this legislation, and if necessary, will draft a coordinated response on behalf
of industry.
