Anderson A s President of your HOA, I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year and God's Blessings on all you do. We need more members to be able to vote on important matters that pertain to us all. At only $15.00 per dues, anyone can spare $1.25 a month. Please join the HOA and help us reach our goal of over 200 members. As next month is election of board members, we need more to run for the board of directors and give their ideas on how we can make Vista even better. The new manager is eager to meet everyone. Leslie is her name and I enjoy working with her; she has good ideas. You need to stop by the office and meet her so she feels welcome. A lot of concerns are being looked into, and you will be able to see your HOA and Vista is working together as a team. Watch the Vistonian and bulletin boards for upcoming events. Many shows are scheduled and there will be some free tickets if you get three or five new members to join. Receive one ticket for every three new members and 2 tickets for every five new members. Hope to see you all in February for the elections. Thank you. Vistonian Vista del Lago 3 4 Vista del Lago Vistonian VdL Recipe of the Month British Trifle O By Irene Ferguson ur American and Canadian friends all love this dessert dish and have asked for the recipe-so here it is. Not so much a recipe as a guideline to making a range of dishes that can all be described as "Trifles". These quantities are sufficient for a bowl or dish - usually glass - that holds a minimum of 8 cups - or you can use 8 individual glasses. The basic structure is as follows: Sponge cake or similar for base 4 cups of Jello Fresh or tinned fruit 3 cups of Custard or Blancmange (You can substitute a sweet sauce made with Corn Starch if Custard/ Blancmange Powder is unavailable) Heavy whipping cream or Reddiwhip There are many variations in flavors - my own favorite is STRAWBERRY TRIFLE: 1. Cover the base of the dish with a layer of sponge cake. (I either make a small sponge - 1/3 of a packet or slices of slightly stale sliced Angel Cake or I use about 6 plain cup cakes). 2. In another bowl make up two packets of Strawberry Jello according to instructions - 2 cups of boiling water, stir 2 minutes until completely dissolved and then add two cups cold water. Leave to cool and begin to thicken. 3. Spoon the liquid Jello over the sponge, lay approx. 4 ounces of strawberries on the sponge and then pour in the rest of the Jello. Refrigerate until firm. 4. Make up the Blancmange or if unavailable make Sweet White Sauce. Bring 1-1/2 cups of milk to a boiling point. Slowly add dry ingredients that have been blended into a paste with ½ cup of milk. Blend slowly while bringing back to a boil and cook until thickened but still pourable (add more flour and milk to thicken it, if necessary). Add vanilla or add strawberry essence and pink coloring if available. Let the sauce cook down - put cling wrap on surface to prevent skin forming. When almost cold, spoon over the Jello and fruit. Leave to set firm. 5. Whip 2 cups of heavy cream or use Reddiwhip on top of the sauce and decorate with remaining strawberries. OTHER VARIATION English Sherry Trifle: As above but spoon ½ cup sherry over sponge base before using Jell0 - do not use any fruit - use custard made thicker with extra powder and sprinkle cream with red cake sugar topping. Chocolate Trifle: Use chocolate sponge, orange Jello with tinned mandarin orange slices, chocolate sauce and flakes of chocolate with orange slices over the cream. … any flavor combination you like can count as a Trifle!!!
