By Judith Costa The Past All of us have memories – some pleasant some painful. There are also things that could have happened to you in the past that could be difficult to accept or forgive. But you cannot continue living in the past. Release your expectations about the past you did not live in, and accept what happened. Decide to move on. Don’t hold onto things that you cannot change. Ask yourself: how much do I want to suffer because something happened or did not happen in the past? Just because something has been happening to you in the past is does not mean that it will continue happening in the future. Someone abandoned you, or cheated on you, or betrayed you… It is part of the past now. It does not mean that in your next relationship the same has to happen. It is the pain, the guilt, the regret, or the unforgetfulness, what keeps you stuck in that moment in time when the events happened. Think about the life you want to live, the way you want to feel, and the happiness you want to achieve, and don’t accept anything less than it. Today you are a new person. You are writing a new chapter in the book of your life and you have made a conscious decision to stop reading the old chapters. The present moment is all you have. It is the only moment that is real. Focus on the now. Judith Costa what is happening in this moment. Accept what is. Stop blaming yourself or others for what have happened to you. Maybe your life circumstances were hard, you did not have opportunities, or you never received the Love you deserved from your family, but put this all behind you. Until when do you want to continue using these events as the reason for your unhappiness? You are capable enough to get over anything in life, and maybe these difficulties keep you strong and moving forward. The future belongs to those who believe in it. Your past is part of you, of who you are, but in any case can determine your future. Always remind yourself that you have choices, new choices. Your life will be a manifestation of the different choices you make. You can create your reality, but you need to let go of the past and start realizing that it has no power over you, not anymore. Set yourself free. The moment has arrived. www.judithmcosta.com CCN The concert, entitled “Our Heritage in Sacred Music,” will be held at FAME on Saturday, February 28 at 4 p.m. The church, under the leadership of Reverend “J” Edgar Boyd, Senior Minister, is located at 2270 South Harvard Boulevard, in the historic West Adams District. Ms. Clark-Cole will join FAME’s choirs as they present a variety of musical genres that include Anthems, Hymns, Negro Spirituals, Traditional and Contemporary Gospel, Jazz and Rap, written and/ or arranged by African Americans. They applauded it warmly at the end, though it was clear that all missed the familiar sight of de la Renta emerging from the wings, on a model’s arm, with a huge grin on his face. De la Renta died of cancer at age 82, ending a career in which he dressed first ladies, socialites and Hollywood stars for more than four decades. Only days earlier, he had hired Copping as artistic director, and a week before that, first lady Michelle Obama had worn one of his dresses for the first time. chael Curls; the Voices of Gospel Youth Choir, directed by Charles Lemle and other special guests. The dynamic Walt “Baby Love” will serve as Master of Ceremonies. Love hosts three syndicated radio programs, Gospel Traxx, The Countdown, and The Urban AC and is heard by millions throughout the United States. He is also known to the FAME congregation as Rev. Walt “Baby Love” Shaw, where he is an associate minister. In a note distributed with the program, Copping, who is British, wrote that he was “immensely proud” to be in his new position. “Unfortunately things did not go according to our plans,” he said, “and I never had the chance to work with Oscar, which is something I deeply regret.” He spoke of beginning “a new chapter for the house” while still honoring de la Renta’s legacy. As a member of the Board of Education, she will fight for improving the quality education for all Inglewood students. She will fight for school facilities that are maintained and upgraded. CCN Post You Stories Here At http://california-crusader. blogspot.com Friends became concerned after Wang posted some worrisome messages to a public Facebook thread, prompting the rapid organization of a campus-wide search by students and friends. The search was coordinated online with friends posting places they had canvassed on Facebook — some ventured as far as East Rock, the park north of New Haven. At 2 p.m., a public Facebook status authored by Tammy Pham ’15 told Yale students in New Haven to search high-rise buildings, school buildings and public areas for signs of Wang. Students began to comment, adding locations that they had searched, some even venturing to East Rock to look for their friend. Students also contacted Silliman College and Yale Police to officially report Wang missing, launching a door-to-door search. They later reported to police the discovery that Wang had purchased airfare to San Francisco, California; the plane was scheduled to land Tues- day morning. Later that afternoon, police also discovered that the last time Wang had used her Yale ID to swipe into Silliman College was two days prior, and asked students to halt their frantic New Haven search under the presumption that she had boarded her flight and was no longer in the New Haven area. By 6pm that Tuesday, Yale College Dean Jonathan Holloway delivered the tragic news to the Yale student community by email that Wang’s body had been recovered in California. Holloway’s email read in part: “It is my very sad duty to tell you that Luchang Wang, Silliman ’17, is presumed to have died earlier today in California…The California Highway Patrol has been in touch with the Yale Police and reports no evidence of foul play nor any indication of an accident. It appears that Luchang may have taken her own life.” Wang attended high school in Des Moines, Iowa, and in addition to her many academic accomplishments in math and science was an accomplished cross-country runner. She was also moved by the fight for social justice, and was involved in Yale Political Union’s Party of the Left and the Yale Effective Altruists. CCN South Bay Cities Focus On Business Retention And Engagement South Bay Workforce Investment Board Convenes Regional Stakeholders to Develop Strategies English & Spanish Norma Beltran Call 424.297.9662 Email: Norma.Beltran1217@Att.net When Toyota’s North American sales headquarters departed from the South Bay region last year to Plano Texas, it prompted the South Bay Workforce Investment Board to convene workforce and economic development stakeholders in the region to develop strategies that will retain businesses in the region and support economic growth through new business attraction. The South Bay Workforce Investment Board (SBWIB) Executive Director, Jan Vogel said, “While the South Bay cities may have little ability to affect changes to tax and regulatory matters that are within the purview of the State, our stakeholders can take an aggressive proactive approach to leverage those assets that we can influence. Among these are strategies to prepare a pipeline of skilled workers and ensure that the skill needs of businesses are being met so that workforce and labor market requirements are well aligned with regional economic growth. These were the driving factors for the SBWIB to convene a strategy session with elected officials and both chamber and city economic development executives from the South Bay cities including Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, El Segundo, Carson, Gardena, Hawthorne, Inglewood, Lawndale, Lomita and Torrance. According to Mr. Vogel, “We have collective services and assets that can support businesses during all cycles. I believe this is a great first step in uniting the South Bay and creating impetus for the expansion of our business community.” The event was facilitated by the co-founders of Business U, the sister company to Full Capacity Marketing, Inc. (FCM), a national consulting firm that specializes in workforce development, education, and economic development to help organizations be more effective individually and collectively resulting in economic growth. The SBWIB is planning a second event with Business U that will include an invitation to all of the South Bay elected officials to build on the momentum. Graves and I am a journalist from the California Crusaders Newspaper in conjunction with Until TV. Thank you for allowing me to interview you. Hello Graves. It’s my pleasure. How did you come to the thought of making Butter Lamp? The idea of “Butter Lamp” has existed for a long time; but it wasn’t until 2008 at the FIAC Paris when I saw Michael Nash’s photograph Warsaw 1946, did I finally decide to write the script. In this photograph, a photographer uses a backdrop with some rural scenery to mask the war ruins while shooting a portrait for a woman, it was taken in Warsaw in November of 1946. The differentiation of space presented in one photograph really impressed me and I think that is sort of a common agreement between the western culture and the oriental culture, after that I finished the screenplay of Butter Lamp. Did you think that Butter Lamp would take the world by storm the way that it has? The attention that Butter Lamp has received was not something that I expected when I first made the film; and the future of Butter Lamp is also something that I cannot predict. But one thing for sure is that I wish it will reach more and more audiences. What does the film Butter Lamp mean to you? First of all, this film has strengthened my faith in the infinite possibilities and future potential of film language. And it allowed me to deliberate about the theme of diaspora and identity in the context of globalization. Lastly, because of the international attention this film has attracted, more young filmmakers in China are starting to value short film more. All those mean a lot to me. How does it feel to have seventy (70) film prestige awards, as well as to have been selected by over two hundred (200) film festivals including majors such as Cannes, Sundance, Rotterdam and New York? To hold on to the right to dream even when there’s no hope, that’s how I feel. We have encountered too many difficulties and frustration, but eventually it was our dreams that encouraged my team and I to keep going.
