support and help with this will help to make
these events spectacular.
Next Wednesday, our student leaders will
have their badges of office presented to them
during our Parade. Invitations have been sent
home to parents and we look forward to having
many of our school community present for
these presentations. There will be a

invite you to come to this.

HONOURABLE BRUCE SCOTT VISITS SOUTH!
The students at Dalby South were extremely excited to
receive a visit at our whole school parade this week from the
Honourable Bruce Scott (Federal Member for Maranoa and
Deputy Speaker for the House of Representatives in
Parliament). He presented an Australian Flag to our school.
The flag is particularly significant to our school community, as
it is the actual flag that was flown in the House of
Representatives on the day that our Year Six and Seven
students visited Parliament House in Canberra last year. It
was a great honour and privilege for our new school leaders to
accept this gift on behalf of our entire school. We were also
lucky enough to receive a demonstration from Mr Scott on the
correct way to fold the Australian Flag.

100 Years of the Anzac Tradition
Our School Leaders (Sarah, Liam, Tess and Hugh) were
invited to join the School Leaders from other schools in
Dalby, along with members of the Dalby RSL and the
Honourable Bruce Scott at the Dalby Cenotaph this week.
Bruce Scott spoke to the group about an ANZAC Poetry
Competition that was being held in order to commemorate the
historic occasion of 100 years of the ANZAC tradition, which
will be remembered on 24 April 2015. The four students from
Dalby South were reminded by both Bruce Scott and
members of the Dalby RSL about the importance of keeping
the ANZAC spirit alive and remembering and honouring the
men and women of Australia who are a part of the ANZAC
legend.

This Week in 3D!
Take a look at the aspiring writers in 3D! This week in writing groups we have been putting together ideas
for Persuasive and Narrative writing. Students have been using the Seven Steps to Writing Success
program which has helped with the quality of writing and use of words. This has been a fun way to enhance
the planning and writing experience. The students are enjoying the new approach and are keen to engage
in both group and individual work.
P&C
P&C would like to welcome all new families and welcome back our past families to another year at our great school of
South. We have a very busy 1st term ahead of us with some big fundraising events straight up.
Our biggest event this term of course is our 50th Anniversary Fete and reunion dinner. We will be running a BBQ/ canteen
during this event and will need helpers with both cooking and serving.
The last day of this term will see the school’s annual Cross Country being held at the AFL grounds and we will be asking
parents to donate home baking for us to sell at our canteen on the day.
Our last event for this term will be the Dalby Show, which we run the main food catering/ stall out of the main pavilion. This
year the show dates 10th/ 11th April will fall during the school holidays. This has been a great fundraiser for the P&C and
hope that parents will continue to support with helping during this event, as they say many hands make light work.
All the money raised by the P&C is returned directly into the school and benefits all of our children now and in the future.
If you have any questions or have ideas for us, please let us know through the office. Our meetings are every third
Monday of the month in the library starting at 7:30pm. Everyone is more than welcome.

PB4L at Dalby South
(Positive Behaviour for Learning)
Breaking news- we have a name change! The previous
name of our Schoolwide Positive Behaviour Support
Program (SWPBS) has been changed to PB4L. This name
change is aimed at focussing us all on the outcome of
positive behaviour here at Dalby South being ‘learning’.
This week our focus for PB4L is on the concept:
Be respectful – Use kind words and tone/
Be Kind to others/ Be an active listener.
Secondhand Clarinet for sale.
Jupiter brand, excellent
condition. $350 neg Contact
Angela 0400659467
During our PB4L lesson this week Teachers
are focussing on ways that students can
use appropriate and polite language
towards their peers and adults. This
includes using polite language (e.g. please, thank you,
you’re welcome) as well as using kind words to solve
conflicts (e.g. apologising, offering to help)
A handy quote to demonstrate the topic this week is:
“Treat everyone with politeness, even those who are
rude to you. Not because they are nice, but because
you are.” (Anonymous)
