Boat trips on
Lake Forggensee
The romantic soul of Bavaria
1st June until
15th October 2015
Lake Forggensee
Today lake Forggensee is considered as one of the most beautiful
areas for watersport and leisure time activities in the bavarian
alpine foothills. Waterlovers can try out a different bay every day.
Surfers, yachtsmen, fishermen and boatsmen will also find perfect
conditions. A very special experience is a canoe-sunset-tour.
Hikers and cyclists will like the 32 kilometre circular route around
the lake.
What you don‘t see when the largest lake of the Allgäu region is
at its full water level, is that it is an artificial lake that was created
after the war. In spring 1954 the lake „Lech“ with its length of 12
kilometres and its width of 3 kilometres was dammed up for the
first time. The alternate damming in spring and water release in
autumn decreases the danger of flooding after the melting of the
snow and regulates the water flow at the hydroelectric power
stations along the river Lech.
Allow yourself a special „see-trip“: the further the ship leaves the
southern lakeshore the more magnificent is the panoramic view
of the imposing mountains of the Ammergau, Lechtal and
Tannheim alps, the kings castles Neuschwanstein and
Hohenschwangau and the silhouette of the town of Füssen.
The two boats of the Forggensee shipping company of Füssen sail
a regular service with round trips of two different lengths from
1st June until 15th October.
The small round trip in the southern part of the lake takes about
55 minutes. The large round trip takes two hours and takes its
passengers to the dam which is located on the northern shore.
It is possible to interrupt the journey at any stop for a lunch or
coffee break. Walks, hikes and cycle-tours around Lake Forggensee
can also be combined with part of the journey on board – bicycles
can be carried on board in limited numbers with a small
additional charge. Our insider tip for photos of castle
Neuschwanstein.
In addition to the regular timetable the Forggensee shipping
company offers special trips in July, August and September 2015:
• Romantic evening-trips

„fairy tale king“. (lecture in german language).

Castle Neuschwanstein is compulsory – Forggensee is „the Free
Programme“. Boat excursions in summer time are the ideal
complement to visits of the castles or guided tours of the historic
old town of Füssen. Discover the allgäuer „King‘s nook“ relaxing
from the water!
Both ships are equipped with an on-board-catering (restaurant)
that offers beverages, snacks and small meals. Groups are very
welcome to make reservations for coffee and cake.
Reduced fare for groups for regular tours (see previous page).
For optimal service on board we recommend larger groups to
register in advance (address details see below). The MS Füssen
offers 120 seats in the upper salon, 130 seats in the lower salon
and 150 seats on deck. The MS Allgäu is provided with 90 seats in
the salon and 110 seats on deck.
Both ships can be booked for extra tours out of the regular
