AJourneytotheCross
We are now amidst the journey towards the greatest act of love known to humanity. John 3:16 describes that
act of love so well, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in His
name shall not perish but have everlasting life.” God sent Jesus Christ to us so that we might know His love and
forgiveness in a life changing way. Christ paid the penalty that we deserved and this journey is a time for us to
remember and experience His love. In the church, we call this journey to the cross Lent. Lent is a time for us to
remember what Jesus has done for us on the cross by taking 40 days to focus on Jesus Christ.
How can we focus on Christ this Lent? I believe practicing the spiritual disciplines is a great
way to journey to the cross this Lent. The inward disciplines of prayer, God’s word, fasting and
meditation are great ways to focus on Christ. The outward disciplines of servanthood and
simplicity are also great ways to focus on Christ. The disciplines lead us to a deeper
understanding of Christ’s love of us. When we practice one of them or all of them there is a
profound transformation in our lives.
The challenge, I believe, this Lent is making the commitment to these disciplines. Our time is
our most precious commodity and, as a result, our busy lives make it a challenge to 1it more into
our schedule. Richard Foster, in his book the Celebration of Discipline, writes, “The most dif1icult problem is not
1inding the time but convincing myself that this is importantenoughtosetasidethetime.”Oncewerealizethe

Dinner&Fellowship6:00pmto6:30pm
Activities6:30pmto7:45pm(till8pmforJrHi)
Wednesday Night on the Hill is just around the corner! What are you doing on the 1ive Wednesdays in Lent?
How are you preparing your heart for the celebration of our Risen Lord?
The children’s programs (Heroes on the Hill) will be directed by Kathy Huber. Through music, games, crafts,
skits, and gym time, the children will learn about the heroes in the New Testament. Nursery care is available for
those parents attending one of the many programs after dinner. Please sign your children up if they will be
attending the program or nursery so we may plan accordingly.
The Jr Hi Youth program (Ignite) will be led by Kipp Zimmerman. Please remember this program ends at 8 pm.
The Sr Hi Youth Bible study program (Chill on the Hill) will be led by Brandye Goettler.
The adult classes will be “Living Thoughtfully, Dying Well” led by Judy Baker and “Who Is This Man?” led by Ted
Mingle.
“Living Thoughtfully, Dying Well” is based on a book by the same name written by Glen E. Miller, MD. Joseph
Longacher, MD, past president of Mennonite Medical Association, and past president of medical staff at Henrico
Doctors Hospital, Richmond, Virginia critics Dr. Miller’s book. He states that in a world where the reality of death
may be denied or resisted through futile and expensive effort, we need a book that provides a realistic and
healthy perspective on this universal experience. Dr. Miller, using facts, 1igures, and especially stories, addresses
the legal, physical and emotional aspects of dying to help us see death, and especially our preparation for it in a
positive way. Join us for a study of Dr. Miller’s book. If your group would also like to study this book, please let Ed
Hoehing know.

“Who Is This Man?” is a video-based study by John Ortberg, who is an accomplished author and senior pastor of
Menlo Park Presbyterian Church in California. This study will focus on how Christ’s vision for us to lead lives of
dignity, compassion, forgiveness, and hope continues to inspire and challenge humanity today.
If you have any questions about the Wednesday Nights on the Hill programs, please contact Ted Mingle at
tmingle@lppcmin.org or call the church of1ice. If you have not already signed up for these awesome programs,
please contact Linda Hobbs at lhobbs@lppcmin.org or at 610-539-6635 extension 10.
There is still time to be part of the excitement! Be a Wednesday Nighter on the Hill!

We will have fellowship on Sunday, March 1, 8, and 22, and April 12, 19, and 26. There will be no
Fellowship Sunday, April 5. Sunday, March 15, in Williams Hall, we will have a talent show featuring
our youth from 7-9 pm to help raise funds for the summer mission trip! There will be a free will
offering taken during the show to support the trip and baked goods will also be for sale. Sunday,
March 29, is our annual Easter Egg Hunt for the little ones here at LPPC; so there will be no regular
Fellowship that night.
Saturday, April 4, we will have a second Chadwick’s Fundraiser from 8 am to 10:30 am at Chadwick’s Restaurant
in Audubon! Tickets for only $10 per person will be available in March after services on Sunday mornings. The
last one was such a huge hit not only to support the youth Mission team, but also as a church-wide off-site event!
Let’s see if we can break our record of 211 people!
The Junior High Group (IGNITE)
We will have fellowship on Wednesday, March 4, 11, 18, and 25, and April 8, 15, 22, and 29.
There will be no fellowship on Wednesday, April 1. Wednesday, March 18, will be a movie
night down in the Fireside Lounge complete with refreshments! We will also have a lock-in
with bowling on Friday, April 10 through Saturday, April 11. More information will be sent
home soon. Jr Hi youth are encouraged to participate in the annual rummage sale to start earning funds towards
their youth mission trip student accounts!
A Word from KZ…
Sometimes we just need a little humor in our lives. I was looking through a book
given to a friend and there is a picture depicting Moses and another Israelite tugging
on a magazine entitled “People”. The caption above read “During the forty years of
wandering in the desert, there wasn’t much to read.” Moses is yelling “Let my People
go!” It can be really fun to think about what might have happened back then if they
had access to some of the things we now take for granted. And in the hubbub of
today, we all need a humorous moment every now and again to keep us energized
and uplifted. Especially when it brings us back to the scriptures! I challenge you to
go and brighten someone’s day with the humor God has bestowed upon you!
AnnualYouthMissionTripRummageSale
This year’s Rummage Sale is on Saturday, April 18, from 8 am until 2 pm. We need a lot of help
before and during for the set up and implementation, then after for tear down. It is a
wonderful way to earn money towards student accounts to lessen the cost of the Mission Trip
or The Great Escape!
For those bringing in rummage-no clothing or large furniture please! We will start accepting things on Sunday,
April 12, in Williams Hall after noon or things can be brought straight to the gym starting Thursday, April 16, after
10 am.

Get to Know Your Deacons
Welimma Ogbolu
Hi, my name is Welimma Ogbolu. I am the Deacon for Parish 14, which includes
Marazzi through McGranahan. I work with Linda Ridgway, who is the Elder for this
Parish. I am originally from Nigeria in West Africa. I was a High School teacher in
Nigeria for ten years, and later a School Administrator before coming to the United
States. Presently, I am a Health Aide, and I love my job as I am able to meet a lot of
people. Traveling and meeting people are my hobbies.
Stephanie Sawyer
My name is Stephanie Sawyer and I am a Deacon for Parish 23. This includes last
names in the range of Ven-Wha. My parish team Elder is Bob Hottenstein. I have
been a member of LPPC since the day I was born. My father, John, and younger sister,
Laura, have been life-long members as well. My mom, Tina is also a member and also
a fellow Deacon. You will 1ind the four of us sitting in almost the same pew each
week. My grandparents, Charlie and Elaine Sawyer, were faithful members for over
50 years.
This is my fourth year as a Deacon. Along with being a Deacon, I also teach 1st/2nd
grade Sunday School, am a member of Crosspoint, VBS Volunteer, and run the Attic
Treasures at the Bazaar. As a Deacon, I, along with Brenda Bell take care of sending
out care packages to our college students during the holidays to get them through
their 1inals. Many of you, your children, or your grandchildren have been a recipient
of one of these fabulous packages.
st
Outside of church, I am a 1 grade teacher at Audubon Elementary School. It is a privilege to work in the same
school district in which I graduated from. It is an exhausting but rewarding job. In my spare time, which is rare, I
enjoy reading, baking, cooking, exercise, and spending time with my family and friends. I am proud to call LPPC
my church home and its members my second family. If there is anything I can do to serve you, please do not
hesitate to contact me!
