Emergency Preparedness Exhibition Provided Tools and Information The San Andreas fault is an earthquake hot zone that cuts 80 miles through California. How do you stay prepared? And how do you cope with stress? In answer to that, the Church of Scientology Volunteer Ministers held a disaster preparedness exhibition on February 28. In partnership with the Red Cross, Emergency Management Department, LA DWP and other civic groups, members of the community were provided with tools and preparedness education. The motto of the Volunteer Ministers (VMs) is “something can be done about it”. VMs are trained on the practical life tools of the Scientology Handbook, which provides an exact technology with step-by-step procedures one can use to handle problems and better his own and others’ lives. The expo was followed by Captain John Ignatczyk of LAFD Emergency Management Department who spoke on how to prepare for and respond when faced with disaster. He specifically covered how to make a plan for such an event and getting involved with one’s community to create a team. Ms. Linda Smith, a 40-year first-responder and Scientology VM, highlighted Volunteer Minister tools in some of the world’s most infamous disasters. She shared first-hand experiences from international disaster sites and how one can help people with assist technology, to aid both physical and spiritual recovery with miraculous results. Meditation is to stay with yourself no matter what is happening. It is spending time in quiet thought. Meditation is not about controlling your thoughts, it is about transcending the mind. There are many benefits associated with meditation - helps you to focus, reduces anxiety and stress, helps you to relax, reduces your blood pressure, and also, helps you to understand yourself better and your unique path. Some people say that they cannot meditate, that it is complicated, boring, or frustrating. Let me tell you that there is no wrong way of meditating. Meditation teaches you how to relate to life directly, so you can experience the present moment. Meditation gives you the opportunity to pay an open and nonjudgmental attention to whatever is going on in your life. Meditation is about a compassionate openness, and the ability to be with oneself and one’s situation through all kinds of experiences. In meditation you are open to whatever life presents you with. While in meditation, whatever comes up, you stay with the experience. While in meditation, allow your thoughts and emotions to be like clouds in the sky pushed by the wind that pass away. Meditation is to stay with yourself no matter what is happening, without putting labels of good or bad, right or wrong. Or very simply disconnect from the world and be one with the universe. Meet your soul, the essence of your being. There are many techniques of A Night For “The LAW MAN” Judith Costa meditation. You can just focus on your breathing. It connects you with the present moment. The breath is intimately linked to selfconsciousness. Or you can also have a theme or idea for the whole meditation such as to increase the Love for yourself, achieve abundance, or heal your body. One of the benefits of meditation is to understand yourself more clearly. While meditating, you can detect your judgments, defense mechanisms, and to see yourself and the patterns that you repeat. Meditation is a tool for self-transformation. Meditation allows you to receive guidance, to get the answers to your questions or doubts, to listen to your heart and soul, to tap into your intuition and to reconnect with your inner wisdom. The essence of meditation is to be in tune with you, just being there, being in the present moment, flowing from moment to moment. To be, just be can be very complicated, or create resistance. But when you will be able to relax into the present moment, you will be able to live with the unknown. Book a time for yourself. Reserve a time to meditate daily. www.judithmcosta.com CCN Like Our Facebook Page @ California Crusader Newspaper The Los Angeles Clippers, celebrated and honored long-time Clippers play-by-play announcer Ralph Lawler. recently on “Ralph Lawler Night”. Hayles, REALTOR If you are identifying 2015 -- or even 2016 -- as the year you make a major housing change, you’ll want to confirm that your credit behaviors are at their best. Buying a house is probably the biggest expense most of us ever take on in life. Your credit plays an important role in affording you access to the best terms available from your lender. By Elizabeth Anne Artley A press screening was held March 7, 2015 of At The Top Of The Pyrmid, with a diverse ensemble cast of fresh faces and veteran, award-winning actors Steve Guttenberg and Dean Cain. Directed by Emmy- nominated Lawrence Jordan After the screening, I had the pleasure of discussing “At the Top of the Pyramid” with writer Richard Willis Jr., he said that showing diversity and the ways it affects high-school politics was one of the main goals of his teen flick. If credit is on your list of things to improve this year, there are many options to tune up the ways you think about and interact with your credit. Knowing the smart solutions to improve your credit habits can take you far in the year -- especially with a big purchase ahead. I would say his gold was accomplished . This of course, makes her the target of envy among the other girls. The movie is at its best when portraying the politics behind highschool sports. The football players and the cheerleaders may have different roles and reputations at school, but they face the same conflicts as part of a team. The squabbles over who deserves to become captain and the anger one player feels toward another for not working hard enough in his eyes are problems I remember from my own days as an athlete. Writer Richard Willis Jr. said that race did not even factor into Jamie’s choice of a boyfriend. “‘Today, young people consider the content of a person’s character the most important element. Truly, the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is realized,’” he said. Of course, Willis understands that not every situation is that simple. Jamie may not see race, but tensions still underlie the students’ interactions. For example, Pam, the African-American cheerleading captain, is involved with quarterback Marcuss Brown, also African-American. After observing the way Marcuss flirts interacts with Jamie, Pam shoots him with, “now that you live in her neighborhood, you’re more concerned about her than me?” Later, Marcuss references getting out of the ghetto, and Jamie, of course, lives in a neighborhood with McMansions, where it is safe to run in the street at night. Overall, Willis is adept in his portrayal of diversity. The old issues still lurk beneath the surface, but they come out in a subtler, more nuanced way. Casting Director for “Empire”, Daniels Butler also cast roles for “The Butler” and discovered talents like Gaborey Sidebey, a a then unknown actor who starred in the Academy Award winning film “Precious”. At the same time, she is sister to Director Lee Daniels, which gives her unique insight on how actors are chosen for roles in his projects. “Rather than focus on who is not on “Empire” we should be celebrating the actors who are doing amazing work week after week,” says Daniels Butler. “Fans are in love with Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) and Lucious (Terrance Howard) because the actors who give life to the characters they portray are delivering award winning performances.” Daniels Butler goes on to praise the work of breakout star Bryshere Y. Gray, who plays heartthrob and resident bad boy Hakeem Lyons, for his “growth as an actor” and believes Ta’Rhonda Jones is “enormously talented” and applauds her musicianship. However, it is Malik Yoba’s “powerful performance” as Vernon Turner that seems to make Daniels Butler beam just a bit. “I am so proud of Malik, he is a veteran actor and knows exactly what his character needs to succeed, she said.” “There so many wonderful people that help make this show a #1, like the fantastic job Jussie Smollet (Jamal Lyons) is doing, and I cannot say enough about Kaitlin Doubleday (Rhonda Lyons) who had the unique challenge of filling a diversity role and does it seamlessly. Us Magazine reported the couple, who got engaged this past December, were in Florida over the weekend to scope out The Breakers resort in Palm Springs as a potential wedding location. “(They) were very affectionate,” a source told the magazine. “Joe had his hand on her back.” Nick Cannon is crying foul on the sale of the home he shared with Mariah Carey. Cannon wants the $9 million frozen until they can determine who will be getting what. In a lawsuit, the “America’s Got Talent” host is claiming Carey and her business manager, Michael Kane, took control on the sale of their Bel-Air mansion and elbowed him out of the $9 million deal until it was finalized. Kane told CCN that the lawsuit was “frivolous” and “clearly a desperate act from a sadly desperate man.” Sources says the actor doesn’t have an issue with the sale itself, but that he was left in the dark throughout the process and is concerned about how the funds from the sale will be divided. Carey, 44, and Cannon, 34, married in 2008 and are in the process of divorcing after separating last year. According to Variety, the duo purchased the mansion in April 2009 for $6.975 million from audio engineer Allen Sides, who had pur- chased it years before from “Charlie’s Angels” star Farrah Fawcett. The three-floor mansion measures nearly 12,000 square feet and has at least half a dozen bedrooms, six full and three half bathrooms. It has formal living and dining rooms, a double-height foyer, a home theater, recording studio, game room and indoor basketball court and a so-called Aspen Room, a capacious 32-foot-long entertainment lounge with a massive field-stone fireplace and views over the Stone Canyon Reservoir. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property.
