This year we do have an elect, Joshua Fiscus, grandson of Mary Ellen White. Joshua has been preparing since last fall to receive the Easter sacraments. Joshua has been attending the 5:30pm Saturday Mass each weekend. For the scrutinies we will ask Joshua to go to a different Mass each weekend so the entire parish can see him and get to know him. When a parish celebrates the scrutinies for the elect we use special readings and special prayers. We will be hearing the readings from the 3rd (the Samaritan woman at the well), 4th (Jesus curing the blind man) , and 5th (Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead), Sundays of cycle A this year (rather than the readings from year B that we're currently reading). These readings help reinforce to our elect that Jesus is the living water, Jesus is the light of the world, and Jesus is the first born of the dead, the resurrected. On the 3rd Sunday of Lent and on the 5th Sunday of Lent our elect will receive a copy of The Nicene Creed and the Lord's Prayer, respectively. Allowing and encouraging him to commit to memory what the Church believes and how the Church prays. Please continue to pray for Joshua Fiscus and his family and all of the elect and candidates of the Church, that they will continue to be strengthened and enlightened by God.
