General
information
about the
conference
The International Conference on the Emergence of Africa is jointly organized by the
Government of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire and the United Nations Development
Program (UNDP) in collaboration with the world bank and the African Development Bank
(ADB).
It will host about 300 experts from governments, international organizations for
development, university research centers, private sectors and civilians etc.
This conference will center about many issues linked to inclusive development, structural
transformation and the emergence of Africa. Plenary sessions, high rank panels and
parallel sessions will be held. The plenary sessions will include presentations that will be
followed by discussions around three main topics. A resource document will result for each
of these topics.
Participants are urged to engage in direct exchanges and to share their countries‘
experiences as well as practical cases on best practices. They can also provide all useful
information.
Individuals will be designated to report on each session and take notes so as to issue a
summary of main recommendations on the topics. The reports will be compiled for the
final report that will be shared with all the participants.
All documents will be translated in French and English.

Internet access is free and available 24/7 in the rooms and on the conference site.

Translation
A simultaneous translation will be available in French and English. Each participant will
wear headphones.
Registration
In addition to invitations sent to governments and higher rank experts, each participant is
strongly encouraged to register online. Registration starts on february 16th, 2015 so that
all the necessary arrangements for the stay are made on time for all participants (badge,
documentation, participation kits etc):

participants

Transportatio

Travel and living expenses for delegation/participants are financed by their governments,
businesses or partners in development. The expenses must take into account the cost of
the round trip ticket as well as daily expenses and cost of accommodations.
This information must be provided at the time of the online registration.

Each participant is encouraged to contact/consult with hotels and accommodation places
to book a hotel room. Each participant is encouraged to make all the necessary
arrangements to cover accommodation fees early on.
For Accord Group Hotels (Pullman, Novotel, Ibis Plateau/Marcory) the cut-off date for
online room reservation is March 10, 2015.

Shuttles will be available to participants so as to facilitate their trips to and from the
conference. The shuttles’ schedules can be found below and vary from one
accommodation site to the other:

After these times, you must use a taxi to get to the conference site. You will need to
allocate 5.000 CFA Francs (about 8€/$10 USD) for the trip.
Food and
catering
Participants will take their meals on site for the duration of the conference.
Two (2) coffee breaks (morning/afternoon) and a daily lunch will be offered during the 3
conference days. A dinner will be offered by the Government on March 18th, 2015 at
SOFITEL ABIDJAN HÔTEL IVOIRE
The hotel has a private restaurant, a bar, a VIP lounge and a few shops. All private
consumption will be charged to the individual.

Health
Visa requests
and
processing
Yellow Fever:
Yellow fever vaccine is mandatory to enter the country. A certificate/proof of vaccination
must be submitted upon arrival. However, a medical service is available at the airport and
is open 24/7 for vaccinations. The cost of the vaccine and proof thereof is 9.000 CFA Francs
(14€/$20 USD).
Other practical information
- A medical team will be available for the duration of the conference for emergency
cases.
- Many renowned international clinics are in close proximity to the conference site.
- Make sure to please bring all special medication you need in prevention of shortage of
medical supply in Abidjan.
- Two individual health forms must be filled out and are available online. They are
necessary so as to expedite airport formalities.
All participants, except those who hold a ECOWAS passport, must have a valid visa. We
encourage participants to proceed with seeking a visa on their own.
Visas are requested at the embassies or diplomatic representation of Côte d’Ivoire in the
country.
For participants who were not able to obtain a visa before departing, arrangements were
made so they can request it upon arrival at the ‘’Félix Houphouët Boigny international
airport in Abidjan.
The delegate/participant must have a passport valid for at least three (3) months after the
end of the stay and must pay the visa fee of 65.000 CFA Francs ($130 USD/100€).
S/he must have all the relevant conference documentation (Invitation letter or registration
confirmation or assignment mandate, etc.).
Greeting and
airport
formalities
A team of State Protocole agents and members of the organizing committee will assist
participants upon arrival in Abidjan.
A system was put in place to greet participants. Shuttles and official cars will be available
to transport the delegates from the airport to their hotels. The same service will be
available to delegates from the hotels to the conference site.

According to the results of the last census, the national population is estimated at about
23 million people. The administrative/economic capital city is Abidjan (south of Côte
d’Ivoire) and the political capital city is Yamoussoukro (center of the country). The official
language is French.
