BLOSSOMS AND FRUIT... Unless a tree has borne blossoms in spring, you will vainly look for fruit on it in autumn. —Walter Scott D ear friends in Sacred Heart: We are close to celebrating the Resurrection of the Lord. I keep inviting you to celebrate your Lent with a contrite heart and prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Remember this is a time for change in our lives, so let’s make these days count in our life. One of the most beautiful sacraments we have is the Sacrament of Penance in order to feel God’s love and forgiveness. After your confession, the priest offers what is called a “penance,” usually a prayer or action. It is nothing severe or difficult to do. But don’t think that it is of little importance. In fact, it’s very important! The penance is a small way to begin to repair the damage of sin. We confess our sins, and we receive absolution; the forgiveness of those sins. Still, the residue or consequences of sin remain. If we have been unjust or unkind, we need to repair the damage. If we have succumbed to habits that diminish us, we need to repair the damage. If we have ignored the needs of others, we need to repair the damage. The penance reminds us that a converted and forgiven heart will claim responsibility and then move forward. The penance may be a short prayer or a small action, but do not underestimate its value! In a different topic; I just want to mention that every year for these months of February or March, the Priest Placement Board in the Archdiocese of Chicago has a meeting to review the parishes which are in need of a Pastor. As you already know, my time as Administrator in Sacred Heart Parish concludes this coming June, so decisions need to be made soon for the good of the Parish. Please keep Sacred Heart in your prayers so the decision may be made for the good of the community. I will let you know if we receive any notifications from the Archdiocese regarding this manner. © J.S. Paluch Co., Inc. Peace to all Fr. Francisco Ortega What it means to be a Church Parishioner? Maybe you have asked yourself this question, why do I need to be registered in a Church Parish? Maybe you are an immigrant and you are new to this country; there are a lot of things so different and there is too much information out there that you need to be aware of, to really make yourself feel at home. As baptized Catholics and children of God we are called to take care of each other, not only in words but in deeds. Our mission is to build the Kingdom of God on earth and this is not an easy mission. But it is easier when everybody does their part and works together! Then we can succeed! Here are some things to consider why being a registered parishioner is so important: We can worship God and be thankful with Him as a big family participating at Mass on all Sundays and Holy Days! We can learn our faith deeply when we bring our children to the Catholic School or Religious Education Program. We can participate with different groups, activities and services in our parish, contributing with our time and sharing talents on behalf of our community. We can celebrate our Sacraments with faith and reverence. We can receive pastoral care and spiritual support when is needed. Being a registered Parishioner is also for your own help, not only before God but also before your civil authorities. How does it work? When you are registered in a Church Parish your financial support and contributions you make every Sunday can be recorded in the parish file when you use your personal envelopes. Your support to your parish turns you into an “Active Parishioner” (it helps your Pastor to identify easily if you are attending your Sunday Masses and supporting your Church community). This STATUS can be extremely helpful when you are in need of: A Recommendation Letter to get a new job or to register your children into school. When somebody asks you to be sponsor or godparent for a child receiving the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation or First Communion. When you want to baptize in another church and you need the authorization from your home Parish. When you are requested by the Court to present a Letter of good standing to the Judge. You can also present the record of your support and contributions for Tax purposes every year; they are tax deductible. The use of envelopes are VERY important for our Church in order to give you better support in case you need it. Unfortunately if we have no records in our system, we can’t serve you as we would like and as you deserve. At the same time YOU need to know that ALL of YOUR personal information is confidential and will NOT be given out or shared with any third parties. We are all called to be good stewards….. GET REGISTRED, PRAISE THE LORD and HELP YOUR CHURCH COMMUNITY! PARISHIONER REGISTRATION WEEKENDS Sundays in March at all Masses!!! SOUP & BREAD & STATIONS OF THE CROSS: We all will join for “Stations of the Cross” in the Church at 6:00pm in English & at 7:00pm in Spanish. We will be serving Soup & Bread on Fridays during Lent at 6:30pm in the Marian Hall. We may be able to skip a meal & experience hunger & thirst in the world. One way to observe Lent. This week we will take up a Collection for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe. This collection supports Catholic organizations that provide affordable shelter and train seminarians in a region that still struggles from the effects of Soviet rule. By providing pastoral care, catechesis, and funding for building renovations, your donations help to restore the Church and build the future in the region. Please five generously to the collection this week. ST. Prayer to St. Joseph for the Whole Church O Glorious St. Joseph, you were chosen by God to be the foster father of Jesus, the most pure spouse of Mary, ever Virgin, and the head of the Holy Family. You have been chosen by Christ’s Vicar as the heavenly Patron and Protector of the Church founded by Christ. Protect the Sovereign Pontiff and all bishops united with him. Be the protector of all who labor for souls amid the trials and tribulations of this life; and grant that all peoples of the world may be docile to the Church without which there is no salvation. Dear St. Joseph, accept the offering I make to you. Be my father, protector, and guide in the way of salvation. Obtain for me purity of heart and a love for the spiritual life. After your example, let all my actions be directed to the greater glory in union with the Divine Heart of Jesus, the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and your own paternal heart. Finally, pray for me that I may share in the peace and joy of your holy death. Amen. Tal ves te has hecho esta pregunta.
