FROM OUR PASTOR Dear Friends, Our readings today call us to be rather introspective. Jeremiah tells us that God’s law will be so written on our hearts that we will have no need to tell others how to know the Lord, it will be evident. Saint Paul tells us about Jesus’ cries and supplications to the Father, some of which we hear in today’s Gospel. Indeed, Philip does what we all are to do: he brings others to Jesus. As Lent moves into its final days, our worship gives us an opportunity to reflect on how our Lenten practices have brought us closer to God. The Collect (opening prayer) invites us to “walk eagerly in that same charity” out of which Jesus gave His life for us. May that indeed be our prayer today. Our second collections are our parishes’ way of extending itself for needs of the poor and marginalized in various parts of the world. This week our offering will contribute to the support and encouragement to the Church in Latin America. Our parish is always generous to those less fortunate and I am proud of your kindness in so many ways! March 25 is the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord. While it is not a holy day of obligation it is an important day to remember the meaning and effect of the Word Made Flesh for humanity in our efforts to become more rooted in Christ. Just a reminder that our parish is hosting Archbishop Chaput next week at the 11:30 AM Mass. Please make every effort to attend this Mass as it is an opportunity for the Shepherd of our parish to speak to th us during our 60 anniversary year. May this week of Lent be one of grace for your family, Father Cioppi The Collection for the Church in Latin America funds projects to improve family life and marriage programs, as well as catechesis programs, empowering the 027 MDP for 032215 4 RICE BOWL FOCUS HUNGERING FOR A HEALTHY HARVEST CRS Rice Bowl brings our Lenten journey back to Africa this week, to the Democratic Republic of Congo. We join our fasting in solidarity with people who go hungry, and we remember in prayer the importance of building a community that is willing to support those most in need. And so we pray: Make us worthy, Lord, to serve those people throughout the world who live and die in poverty and hunger. Give them through our hands, this day, their daily bread, and by our understanding love, give them peace and joy. Amen. We are always looking for volunteers! If you are interested please contact Monica Pedano (Carnival Chair) at 610-420th 2999 or join us on March 24 at 7:30PM in the Parish Offices for a Carnival committee meeting. On March 8, 15, and 22 we will celebrate the three Scrutinies with the people being baptized at Easter. Scrutinies are the rituals before an adult baptism in which all that is weak, defective, or sinful in the hearts of the elect is brought forward, and all that is upright, strong, and good is strengthened. The Scrutinies are celebrated in order to deliver the elect from the power of sin and Satan, to protect them against temptation, and to give them strength in Christ, who is the way, the truth, and the life. PARISH SERVICES PRAYER FOR THE YEAR OF CONSECRATED LIFE O God, throughout the ages you have called women and men to pursue lives of perfect charity through the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity, and obedience. During this Year of Consecrated Life, we give you thanks for the courageous witnesses of Faith and models of inspiration. Their pursuit of holy lives teaches us to make a more perfect offering of ourselves to you. Continue to enrich your Church by calling forth sons and daughters who, having found the pearl of great price, treasure the Kingdom of Heaven above all things. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Our fun and welcoming 7 027 MDP for 032215 classes help children of all ages learn how to pray, read the Bible, and love their Catholic faith! It’s never too late to get started! PREP KID’S CORNER (TOP SECRET, NO PARENTS ALLOWED!) This Week’s Memo: Jesus Saves us from the Dead! Many of us know a loved one or friend who has died. Death is a (sad) part of human life. But today’s Bible story is GOOD NEWS because when Jesus hears that his friend Lazarus has died, Jesus raises him from the dead! Imagine all those surprised people standing around as a mummy starts to walk and talk and come back to life! Jesus did this miracle to give us faith and hope that we will see our loved ones again after they die. We will see them again in Heaven! We know that Jesus promises to raise from the dead every single person who loves Him – including you and me! What good news! Liturgical Trivia! Who or what is a scrutiny? Last week’s answer: an “acolyte” is a person who helps with special jobs during the Mass. They are technically a very small part of the ordained ministry of priests and deacons. Today, many of the jobs that our lay people do (carrying the Cross, lecturing etc.) were once done by acolytes – men who were officially chosen for these jobs during the Mass. From the desk of Miss Lauren Joyce, DRE SCHOOL NEWS Mother Teresa Regional Catholic School kindergarten sessions again next year! We have afternoon prek3 slots, as well as afternoon Transitional Kindergarten spaces still available and are forming a waitlist as we consider opening another prek4 morning session. Please continue to share the good news about MTC and encourage friends and neighbors to contact the school as soon as possible so that we can properly prepare for next year. Your continued prayers for the continued growth of MTC School is greatly appreciated! Registration for grades 1 through 8 will open soon. A wonderful way to show your support of our Catholic School mission of serving as a community of Faith, service and knowledge is to participate in the MTC "Sponsor a Student" program. Some MTC families face financial challenges and have had medical or employment changes that have altered their ability to meet their financial obligations for their child's education. Please consider being an angel and make a tax deductible donation, designated or undesignated, to assist these families. Confidential arrangements can be made through contacting Mrs. Vickie Walsh, MTC business manager, atvickie.walsh@mtcschool.org or calling 610-265-2323 ext 206. 100% of your donation will go directly to a child's education. If you own a business or are self-employed, you may be able to contribute to the MTC scholarship program by diverting your Pennsylvania State taxes that you already owe and pay, to the MTC scholarship program. Jayne Lloyd would be happy to meet with you to discuss this state run financial aid opportunity. Contact her to set up an appointment at your convenience (jayne.lloyd@mtcschool.org). God bless you! www.MTCschool.org Congratulations to Kimellen Remar and her talented committee of volunteers who raised $39,113.27 at the recent MTC Auction. Despite the snowy weather, this fun event resulted in a night of creating memories and giving proof to the resolve of our benefactors. Please know that that MTC community is grateful for your prayers of support for the continuing mission of our special school! These funds will help off-set the extra cost of snow removal and heating oil incurred this past winter.
