2015 ANZAC Ceremony
We had a wonderful AnZAc
Service on Friday, 1st may,
outside near our new flag poles.
the students who conducted
the service did an outstanding
job and delivered some really
important messages that
explained the AnZAc story in
a meaningful way for all who
attended.
our students showed great
respect in the manner in which
they listened attentively and
participated during the service.
it was an honour for us to have
mr norm eaton, a veteran and
member of the rSl, address our
students.
At 95 years of age he was able
to relate a real life story that
involved a number of family
members fighting for our
country.

These are the five most important words at Adam Road Primary
School. They are the School Values. All staff members, teaching
and non-teaching, and a member of our school board met last
Thursday afternoon to develop a set of values for the school.
The five values above were chosen from a long list, after much
discussion and debate and agreed on as the key values we as a
school community are committed to developing in our students.
All classes are now developing quite specific lists of behaviours
that demonstrate these values.
To reinforce these behaviours each class will be awarding two
Values Awards each fortnight to students who have demonstrated
one or more of our values. These awards will be presented by
me or a Deputy Principal as they are earnt during the fortnight and
the student will receive five faction tokens.
All students who earn a Values Award during the fortnight will
go into the draw for one of two canteen vouchers that will be
presented at each assembly.
Please reinforce the importance of these values in all aspects of life
with your children. It is important that we all demonstrate these
values, particularly when at Adam Road, to ensure our school is
providing a supportive and encouraging learning environment for
all students.
Our Year 3 and 5 students are completing NAPLAN Tests to
assess their literacy and numeracy skills this week as are students
of this age all over Australia. Reports detailing the results of these
tests will be sent home at the end of this term.

National Family Reading Month 2015
Having reading role models and reading together are critically important factors in a child’s
learning and literacy development. Research shows us that family reading time is one of
the BEST ways to grow a child’s interest in the wonderful world of books!
Scholastic is committed to helping our school inspire a lifelong love of reading in all
children. To help motivate our students we are invited to participate in National Family
Reading Month! Scholastic is giving away $10000 worth of prizes to the families,
classrooms and schools that read most in May.
NATIONAL FAMILY READING MONTH
Website opens 1st may 2015
www.scholastic.com.au/nfrm
It’ll include everything you need to get involved in the Read More in May Challenge!
To participate:
• On 1st May download the Reading Logs. Students record the number of minutes they
spend reading on each day in May.
• In the first week of June, students and their families can enter their total Reading
Minutes online for a chance to WIN!
The more families participating in National Family Reading Month the greater
chance to share in the $10,000 prize pool!

Radio Adam Road
On Tuesday the 12th of May, 15 lucky (and extremely excited!) Year
6 students got to visit the HOTFM/RadioWest Building as part of
their clubs program, “Radio Adam Road”. The program is designed
to investigate working in the radio industry with the ultimate goal of
creating their own lunch time radio stations.
The tour was run by breakfast show hosts, RYAN AND ROSIE as
the students got to explore studios, play music and meet the writers,
producers, sound engineers, hosts and even the BIG BOSS of HOTFM.
They even got to have their voices recorded to play on the air! So keep
an ear on the radio, you might just hear some familiar Adam Roadster
voices! Before we knew it, it was time to go back to school, but all
students felt inspired and excited about possibly working in the radio
industry in the future as it seems like a ‘pretty cool’ place to work.
Miss Olsen would like to thank the people from HOTFM who
organised, ran or were a part of our tour that took the time to meet
and talk with the Clubs- Music group. Well done to the students who
represented Adam Road; HOTFM are excited to see us again in the
future.

STUDIES AT HOME
In late June - early July we will be receiving
exchange students from Argentina, Bolivia,
Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy,
Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland,
Sweden and the USA. Our new arrivals will live
with a host family and attend a local school for
3, 5 or 10 months. As we plan for their arrival,
we are keen to hear from suitable families who
might be interested to host a student.
Host families come in all shapes and sizes,
backgrounds and ages. To this end, we would
be grateful if you would place a notice in your
newsletter or mention it on your website. You
can download the newsletter notice here in
Word format or as a PDF.
Our 2015 Cadet program will be commencing
in June. We are currently seeking expressions

parents who would be interested in assisting.
Cadet training is held on a fortnightly basis, and
includes learning about basic fire-fighting skills, use
of equipment, general safety and first aid, team
building and lots of fun activities.
It is a great opportunity to invest in the future of
the local volunteer bush fire brigade. Our Cadet
Co-ordinator contact is Warren Burton, and he

Hosting an exchange student can be a truly
rewarding experience. It allows a family to
experience a foreign culture first hand, be
exposed to a new language and pass on a bit
of our own culture. They might even make a
friend for life!
All students have at least basic levels of English,
would attend a school in your local area and
live the life of a local.
