POSITION SUMMARY The incumbent (Project WASH engineer), will be responsible for the daily implementation, monitoring and regular community consultation on the WASH component of the SCORES II project in Sanaag and Mudug regions. The project Engineer will work closely with the project manager based in Badhan and the deputy project manager based in Galkacyo as well as the project officers and community mobilizers in the both regions in ensuring the project WASH related activities are well delivered. Lead community consultation in the selection of the WASH facilities sites 2. Appropriately design the WASH facilities, and guide proper technical implementation 3. Monitoring of the WASH activities implementation SPECIFIC ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The specific roles and responsibilities of the WASH engineer will include; Carry out WASH needs assessment in the project areas, with development of technical sound assessment reports with clear recommendations for WASH activities implementation Lead in the community consultation process jointly with the project officers and the community mobilizers for the identification of the WASH facilities Engage respective communities in the selection of the water berkads, shallow wells and other water sources for the rehabilitation and construction process Design the appropriate works to be done for each water facility selected for implementation Develop detailed bill of quantities (BoQ) for each identified water facility (water berkads, water wells etc), Regular Supervision of the WASH activities throughout the implementation period Responsible for the day to day implementation of the WASH activities in both sanaag and Mudug regions Regularly monitor WASH activities implementation and advice the project manager on the progress Provide regular project sites visit report and the monthly WASH activities status report to the project manager. Lead the community consultation on the formation of the water committees, and the development of the MOU with each committees selected on the water facility operation and maintenance Train the water committees on the water facility operation and maintenance as well as the sustainability through the appropriate mechanism Ensure the WASH facilities (berkads, shallow wells, boreholes etc) either rehabilitated or constructed meets the international standards (WASH minimum SPHERE standards) Monitor water quality through continual testing and undertaking activities to address poor quality, including public health initiatives. Develop training materials related to Water, Sanitation, and Natural Resource Management components as needed for the project. Any other duties assigned as need arises. SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor of Science degree in Water engineering and any other related field At least 4 years of technical expertise in WASH, water and civil works At least 3 years of experience in construction of WASH works in rural contexts, including construction of shallow wells, Berkads, borehole drilling and dams Knowledge of SPHERE minimum standards Working experience in the project areas (Sanaag, North and South Mudug) mandatory Experience working in a humanitarian or other international NGO Strong computer application skills and the appropriate software A team player with good organizational and interpersonal skills APPLICATION PROCESS This is a challenging opportunity for a dedicated and highly motivated professional.
