Holidays
Welcome back for the start of the
second school Term for 2015.
From talking to parents and
children during this week, many of
you enjoyed the time at home or
holidaying in many parts of
Australia.
School council
At its meeting on Tuesday School
Council elected the office-bearers
for the coming year. Annette
Mitchell was elected as School
Council President, with Scott
Turner elected to the role of Vicepresident. Barry Dawson was
elected as Chair-person of the
Finance Committee. Paula Thynne,
Natasha Siryj, Tieman Humphrys
and Pip Bain joined the Council for
the Parent-Member category, and
Andrea Lowe, for the DEECDmember
category.
These
candidates were duly elected and
we thank them for their
willingness to serve in the capacity
of School Councillor. Jodi Wheeler,
Michelle Davies, Jill Roche and
Mick Quillinan, make up the
remainder of School Councillors
First people
School Council decided that it is
appropriate for us to acknowledge
the traditional owners of the land
on which our school is built. We
will investigate the protocol to
allow this recognition to happen in
the most appropriate way.
2016 enrolments
I have had the great pleasure of
meeting prospective new parents
during this week. Most of these
have been parents of prospective
Prep parents, but some with older
children. If you have 2016
‘Preppies’ please formally enrol
them as soon as possible.
Naplan
These national tests of literacy and
numeracy skills will be conducted
during the week beginning 11th of
May. As usual, we don’t intend to
make a big ‘fuss’ about this
process, ever-mindful of the
anxiety some of our children
experience during this week.
Hopefully the daily media will be
more tempered in its reporting
than has been the case in previous
years of this testing. Once again I
will make myself available to
‘supervise’ children completing the
tests in the days immediately
following the ‘set’ testing days.
You should also be aware that I
give no credence whatsoever in
the validity of using these tests to
compare children, schools or
school systems. They can,
however, be useful for teachers to
plan the next level of work in their
literacy and numeracy programs.
