Sixth Sunday of Easter
Thought for the week
The following is from an email that Kathy Friend, sent to the Vestry about her reflections
after the Vestry Retreat held last weekend.
We are pleased to report that we held a very meaningful Vestry Retreat. All who
were present were enriched by one another; we gave of ourselves and received the
gifts we each bring to All Saints.
Thank you, Michael, for your omnipresent organizational skills and for helping us to
dot our i's and cross our t's. I know apostrophes don't belong in those places but we
did it anyway.
Fr. Hugh, thank you for leading us on a wonderful discovery of what we value
about All Saints and the omnipresent gifts we give to one another. Our talents, our
"ministries" and the unique ways we each try to live out our Baptismal covenants
served to remind us of why we love one another, support one another and we were
reminded to celebrate the amazing blessings we give to All Saints individually and
as a vestry. We discovered anew, the joy in being together as the living body of
Christ.
I'm not sure how we can ever thank the Transition Task Force enough and,
especially, Chuck Dinsmore, Barbara Price and Bill Peters for their work during this

time of transition, reflection, challenge, and renewal. Their Saturday workshop
helped us to define what is most important to the congregation and what we, as the
Vestry, can do to help restore, refresh and renew our congregation as living members
of the body of Christ. Chuck will share more with us about the action plans that we
agreed should be priorities for the Vestry. We should do what vestries do best - lead and help the Congregation to run the football to the goalpost.
Our Saturday afternoon session was about "if money was no object" what would we
want. If money IS an object, what things are priorities and what things are not? What
are our duties, fiduciary responsibilities and mandates as a Vestry to move from
"pending" to "in progress" and "accomplished"? We defined our priorities, put verbs
in our sentences and determined, to a person, what we would like our next steps to
be. We achieved a level of consensus that is extraordinary for a Vestry of such
disparate interests.
Which brings me to this moment:
There is a special meeting of the Vestry for Thursday, May 7th at 6:30pm so that
those who were present and those who were not, can discuss together the way
forward and VOTE on a matter of importance for today and the future. It will be a
seminal meeting in which we will discuss and vote on the way forward.
Personal gratitude to each member of the Vestry, whether present or absent, for the
retreat, for your ministries and for the extraordinary gifts you bring to All Saints. You
are the face of Christ in more ways that you can imagine.

Many are asked to remember others, especially for healing, in our prayers. All are
invited to join together at this service for a healing laying-on-of-hands, anointing,
and prayer for others or our selves. These prayers become our Eucharistic offering
as we celebrate together in our lovely St Luke's Chapel.

Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself; and, when
we had fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent

Outreach Opportunities
Volunteers Needed for Beds Around the Altar (May 18 - 23)
There are families in our county that have encountered issues in their lives, which
have currently left them without a place to live. Hope South Florida is an
organization that works with families who are awaiting space availability in a
family shelter. While they are in transition, All Saints is one of many area churches
that open up their spiritual home on a regular basis to help these families. During
the week, volunteers play an essential role in helping the families cope during their
evening stay. Individuals or families prepare a meal and visit with the families. Two
chaperones spend the night to provide a reassuring & safe environment. The
families are comforted knowing there is loving support for them in a Christian
community.
The next week we will be hosting this wonderful opportunity of Christian
outreach is the week of May 18-23. We are coordinating volunteers to bring
evening meals to feed the families at 5:30 pm and chaperones to be on-site
overnight with the families from 7 pm until 6 am in the church sanctuary. It is an
awesome and rewarding feeling when you are able to help out families in this

Donations for the Food Pantry at St. Ambrose
Each Sunday at the offertory, the elements for the Eucharist are brought to the altar
along with bags of donated food and groceries for the Food Pantry at St. Ambrose.
These are given by our generous parishioners to help those who are in need to feed
their families. We have reusable bags in the narthex that you can pick up as you are
leaving each Sunday and return them filled with items the next week. Staples such
as beans, rice, cereals, salt and pepper, can goods, are always appreciated..
A BIG THANKS to everyone for supporting Outreach at All Saints!

We are extending a special invitation to all of our graduating high school
and college students to be honored at the Sunday, May 24th service at 10:30 a.m.

Journey to Faith: An Inquirer's Answers to the Episcopal Church
Come join us as we explore this informative series about your Journey in the
Episcopal Church. We try to answer all of those nagging questions about "why do
we do that?" The remaining sessions include: The Council of Nicea and A History of
Anglicanism (5/10), Book of Common Prayer & The Sacraments (5/17), World
Religions (5/24), Baptismal Covenant (5/31), and Pain to Power: Faith in Action
(6/7).

PADDLE UP THE HIMMARSHEE CANAL
All Saints is supporting the Paddle Up event which is being held today, May 10th.
The Paddlers will launching from the All Saints’ docks and continuing down the
canal along the Trade Post route.
Volunteers are needed to help with hospitality, registration, serving beverages and
food.
The event runs from 2 – 5 pm and they are looking for volunteers to work a 2 hour
shift from 1:30-3:30 or 3:30-5:30.
If you are interested, please meet by the dock at 1:30 or 3:30. Contact the office if
you have questions.
