All money raised, after expenses, goes to the FoodBank Noticeboards At the Church council we discussed the use of noticeboards. What is the purpose of our boards? At the moment there are too many miscellaneous notices all together. There is no room for new and urgent notices. It was suggested that the present arrangement could be managed if we regarded notices in four: 1. Business notices such as rotas and room bookings on the board outside the office 2. General long term notices such as flower rotas and contacts for agencies at the back of the church 3. Notices which would impact on the church and non non--church organisations using the building on the pin board in the foyer and/or on the board in the schoolroom 4. Items which have immediate impact on the church/congregation on tea/coffee table in Sanctuary. Or would it? Is the Bible a redundant collection of positively medieval ideas about authority, sexual morality, the place of women and so on? Or does it have profound and challenging things to say about contemporary issues? As we get close to the General Election, this event asks what it means to ‘think theologically’ about public issues. There is no need to book. We look forward to seeing you on 18 th April. HANA - NORTH KOREA Thought for the Week Have you ever had a problems so big you didn’t know how to cope? "Who will roll away the stone from the door of the tomb for us? For it was very big"(Mark16 v 3-4a). Hana came to faith in North Korea after someone secretly gave her a Bible. God used Hana to convert many people, until she was exposed and had to leave her country and family behind. "Of course God is at work! Of course prayers help! "I am such a weak person. I hardly had any Bible knowledge, but God used me to explain the gospel to others. Sometimes, God sent me on the road. I clothed my six-month-old baby, fastened him on my back and walked for miles and miles – until I saw some stranger and I knew this was the person I needed to talk to. I said what I needed to say and went home. Do you think that would be possible without God? "North Koreans do not come to faith because we convince them by our words. Of course we need to verbally explain the gospel, but more important is that we put the gospel on display. God's Spirit really transformed me. I smiled all day, even though I lived in terrible circumstances. I shared my food, even though I had so little. People saw God's Spirit at work in me. Please, tell your friends they need to continue to pray. God is answering their prayers." Such a stone would weigh hundreds of pounds and, once set in place, would be difficult to move. The tomb was that of a rich man, Joseph of Arimathea, which had never been used. It’s entrance was through a rectangular doorway. Archaeologists tell us the tombs of the first century were normally sealed with a flat square stone wedged into place to the keep animals out. However, since this was a rich man's tomb it probably had a large, circular flat, disk-shaped stone, three or four feet in diameter, like a millstone with a wide slot cut into the rock. The groove would be sloped toward the doorway so that when in a closed position it would be easily rolled into place. There was a violent earthquake and an angel rolled the stone away and sat on it. Matt 28 v 2 It was not rolled aside in its groove in the regular way so as to be rolled back again to shut the entrance. No, it was hurled out of its groove by some tremendous power, thrown flat upon the ground in front of the tomb, thus making a seat for the angel who waited until the women drew near and then went inside the tomb" Why was the stone rolled away? What the women feared never happened happened.. Why do you doubt?? "Do not be afraid."
