“I feel better every time I walk in the
door at ANHC.” - Keith
KEITH FERRARI decided he needed to make a
change. His family business couldn’t afford health insurance, and
old injuries and chronic conditions were catching up with him. He
needed affordable care and insurance, and he didn’t know where
to start. He found ANHC and provider Megan Engler, PA-C a year
ago. Today, Keith will tell you, “I’ve never felt better.”
He explains that at ANHC, he has a team of medical and dental
providers that partner with him and help him to understand
his care. Keith receives education on how to use preventative
services, and to keep the healthcare coverage that’s right for him.
It has worked so well that his whole family has followed him and
are now patients at the health center. “I feel better every time I
come in the door.”

2014 HIGHLIGHTS
In 2014, ANHC reached milestones on
insurance enrollment and quality, two big
trends that are shaping healthcare today. We
enrolled over 1,000 patients and community
members into affordable insurance through
the Health Insurance Marketplace and became
a fully accredited level III Patient Centered
Medical Home. These two accomplishments
make it easier for our providers to offer
comprehensive, personalized attention with fewer barriers to care. Our
Patient Centered Medical Home structure offers our patients increased
peace of mind and a closer connection with a trusted provider and care
team.
Building on these themes of access, patient centered care, and quality,
we also celebrated:
• Being one of the first community health centers in the country to forge
a partnership with the Veterans Administration to accept veterans into
our practice.
• Integrating behavioral health services into our family practice clinic for
any patient who needs them.
• Offering comprehensive oral health services to more patients than ever
regardless of insurance or ability to pay.
We also focused on the sustainability of our practice, building on efforts
to improve patient and staff retention. Working with our partners in
education, we also increased our pipeline of new providers. We are
proud to have finished 2014 in the black and are building adequate
reserves to reinvest in our practice in the future.

SAM BAYANINEEK
arrived
in Anchorage from Iran with a dream of
starting his own business but needed to
start by working on his smile.
Like most refugees, his first encounter
with ANHC was through his mandatory
refugee physical. He immediately began
working with Dr. Ghazal Ringler and
Dental Manager Melynda Overson to
correct long neglected dental issues,
from fillings and crowns to cleanings
and regular check-ups. Dr. Ringler also
introduced Sam to the connection
between dental and physical health.
With his smile restored, Sam had the
confidence to complete his training to
become a hair stylist and to open his own
salon. We are proud of his progress and
the role our dental and medical providers
played in his success.

ELIZABETH (LIZA) ROOT
dove into her
academic interests in public health and clinical quality when she joined
ANHC upon graduation from the UAA Masters in Public Health program
in 2014.
In her first year on the job, Liza has educated and enrolled patients in
affordable insurance coverage, and coordinated care plans with patients
at higher risk including the homeless, high risk pregnancies and chronic
diseases including HIV and diabetes.
She is now gaining experience and training in quality integration, where
she uses population health data to evaluate quality improvement
measures and outcomes.
We salute her work and the advancement of all our professionals in
growing to meet the changing care needs of our patients and planning
for the future of care in our community.
