Wedding Music Guidelines

MUSIC FOR WEDDINGS
The Chapel provides an organist to play the prelude (15 minutes before ceremony), processionals
(family/special guests, bridesmaids and bride), and recessional music for every ceremony. A couple may decide
to use the organist for all or some of these elements, or not at all. If the organist is not used, the organist fee
($75) still applies and is to be made payable to Kamehameha Schools. Organ music is pre-determined (Preludeat Organist’s discretion; Parents/Special Guests Procession-Canon in D; Bridesmaids-Jesu, Joy of Man's
Desiring; Bride-Wagner's Bridal Chorus; Recession-Mendellsohn's Wedding March) unless specified by the
couple. Any other music and accompaniment must be approved by the Chapel’s Office at least 4 weeks prior to
the ceremony. If requests are not made by this time, the KS Organist will play the afore-mentioned songs.
In addition to the prelude, the processions, and the recession, the organist can, at request, provide music for no
more than 2 additional selections to be played during the ceremony. The couple may also have a vocalist and
ask the organist to provide accompaniment. If there is to be a vocalist, please have that person contact the
Chaplain’s Office directly to make arrangements. The organist does not attend the wedding rehearsal; any
music rehearsal arrangements prior to the ceremony are made at his/her discretion. The couple or vocalist is
responsible for providing the sheet music if the organist does not have it.
All music requests must be submitted, in writing, to the Chaplain’s Office at least 4 weeks prior to the
wedding. Please include song titles, lyrics (as they will be sung), type(s) of instrument(s) played (if other
than organ), and when selections will be sung (i.e. prelude, recession, etc.). All instruments must be played
acoustically.
The following selections are some of the standard pieces that are used for processional and recessional music.
